I have to admit that a guy with facial hair (less a goatee) is pretty sexy.

Here's my beard. I'm yawning in case you were wondering.
Oh I thought you were singing
"And IIIIII-III-III
will always love YOU-U-U-U-U"

Maybe I'm singing
"You never close your eyes, anymore, when I kiss your li-i-ips,
There's no tenderness, like before, in your fingerti-i-ips..."

It looks great if done well. No reason to be shaved anymore unless your job requires it. Let it stand as an assertion of your self.
A good beard can definitely look great if done well.
I find that the itchiness goes away after a few very itchy days (about 2 separate periods of 'ITCHY!!!') but at the same time my face gets more care than when I shave. Otherwise the shaving is about all the care it really gets.
As for 'No reason to shave anymore unless your job requires it' I don't think it really has anything to do with an assertion of yourself unless that IS you. Sometimes it is sometimes it isn't.
I've been able to grow a full beard since I was 13 - sometimes that was a blessing, sometimes a curse!
I'm lucky enough that my wife likes me bearded and not - and that's especially great because I switch it up a LOT.
As for being too hot in the summer - I didn't find that at all. I felt like the facial hair did a great job managing heat. Biggest beard I ever had was over the summer:

and that was just over a month of growth... (partially shaved it a couple of weeks later, that was fun too!) felt SO weird to shave that off. But now I'm back to a goatee here and there and jumping around between scruffy and clean-shaven.
Just do what you feel, man.
Yeah!
Oh - I do think all guys should at least TRY and see what they think! If you never experience a good prolonged period of NO SHAVING (unless you want to clean up the neck - THAT never seems to stop itching for me) you will never know whether you like it or not.
Also - I personally find that I like it better if I keep the mustache trimmed somewhat - both for my wife's willingness to kiss me and not having to eat your mustache all the time!
I think beards make everything MORE.
They make surprises more surprising:

And they make seriousness even seriouser:

And they make your anger look much angrier:

Also, Beardliness is next to Godliness. I'm pretty sure it says so in the Bible or something.
EDIT: Goodness, I appear to be in need of some landscaping on the ol' facial topiary...
Dang... I think your 'much angrier' face scared everybody away!!
So anyways - I'm thinking of growing a beard like this next...

It might take a coupla days...
