International shipping rates don't apply to health, a question, and fats
I finally made it to Korea. If you haven't been there I highly suggest it. The culture but historically and contemporary is so cool. Also you can get a big plate of delicious BBQ beef for like 4900W. That's not a lot in dollars.
I also finally have a kitchen, so I've been exploring different places to get food. The most obvious and convenient is the commissary, which has some great simple foods, and I picked up a whole big bag of (cruelly treated but I'm sorry chicken I can't afford the good stuff yet) chicken breasts and quarters, and some fish that was more than I wanted to pay but so delicious.
And then I went to look for fats and realized horribly that they don't carry olive oil (there are some that are labeled olive but don't pass certain standards that make it 100% olive oil). Eek.
BUT I have realized that this is a great opportunity to try new ingredients and new methods. After all this is Korea (did I mention you should go because they have the best food in the world? Hello omega 3s and Lactobacillus kimchii <- really a thing just eat it it's delicious).
So hopefully my books will come in soon, but until then do anyone have a quick ingenuitive fix for me? What are your favorite cooking fats/ingredients. Anything is welcome, although I have about as much experience in the kitchen as Linguini from Ratatouille. Most I'm portantly, does anyone have any experience with Asian/European markets? I have only heard rumors, but I know there's a few in town. I'm dying to try but not to get swindled or lost. :/
