From what I've read it is likely that through bipedalism & sweating ability it is likely that we specialised as "Persistance Hunters" in Africa, as the San Bushman are:

This activity would likely have taken place around the middle of the day when it is hotest, this is when herbivores are most vulnerable to heat stroke and seek shelter, where as Humans with greater cooling abilities could continue a high level of activity.
So this suggests that more often than not we remained hungry until after midday, we may have nibbled on some scraps but nothing substantial, there was a marathon to run so a full belly would be a disadvantage, so once the hunt was done, there would be a small feed of blood and delicacies as the carcase was butchered and then taken back to camp for the feast which would most likely be mid to late afternoon, that's the Hunters (men) cycle.
While this was going on the Gatherers (women & children) would have also gone out at mid morning to catch small prey, gather fruits, berries, tubers, insects etc. but theirs would be a more leisurely process, they would nibble as they gathered, basically grazing, here a grub, there a berry etc. and then they would bring their haul back. They would instinctively ensure that they had eaten something and that their children were fed because if the men returned without meat, failed hunt, then the men would claim priority to food and the women and their children may well go hungry.
So this may also be an evolutionary factor in the different responses to IF, where men generally seem to have less issues going 24 hours, but more women lean towards the 16/8 protocol.
Our circadian cycles seem to lean in this direction too where our body temp ramps up from a low at around 4am to daily max from about 10am to 4-6pm. I have tried to find some data regarding circadian cycles in digestion, but info is scant, there seems to be a general consensus that there are three stages:
Cleansing - 4am to 12pm,
Digestion - 12pm to 8pm,
Assimilation - 8pm to 4am
I'm not sure if this was established from purely cultural observations of health as I have not been able to locate any specific scientific data to verify this.

I do IF but its not very long usually skipping breakfast and eating at 12. I cant go any longer. This whole 1 meal a day thing seems MUCH to little for a 200 lb male unless your really able to eat 2000 calories in one meal. Ive done 2 meals with a shake but could never manage 1 meal. Arent you people hungry? lol.
I think IF is a great way to lose some pounds.

A low metabolic rate could be advantageous at times - like a long walk in cold weather. But it's also going to mean you won't be able to run as fast, jump as high or throw as far. What good is a downregulated metabolic rate when you're hungry in the middle of the summer because you missed a meal? If you're hungry, it stands to reason that you're going to need to run FASTER to catch your food.
And that's the dichotomy - when you're fasted (a day or so), it makes more sense to me that you'd be able to run faster to catch your meal. You're [I]hungry[/I]! But if you haven't eaten for 4-5 days, now you're [I]starving[/I] - then to me, it makes more sense to have a downregulated metabolism to preserve your fat stores, and you should be in "gather" mode instead of "hunt" mode.
At least that makes sense to me. I'm not saying I'm correct, but this is what seems logical in my mind. I can tell you right now, I can run a lot faster and lift a lot harder if I'm hungry. I max out around ~12-16 hours without food, and I'm sluggish if I were to go to the gym a few hours after a significant meal.
Omni that is very interesting, thanks for posting that. At the moment i am intermittent fasting on a 20:4 ratio. i usually eat from 8pm to 12am. would you recommend i change that to 4-8pm? or would it eating 8pm-12am just shift the cycle.

When your eating nutrient dense meals, you feel full/not hungry for longer. Its also much easier when your a "fat burning beast".
1 pound of meat, probably a pound of veggies, and some fruit and im still hungry a few hours later lol. IMO eating healthier im hungrier more often then when i ate shit. This is why i added some carbos to the mix too.
Well, its also been said that it just isn't for some people. sounds like you may be one of them. LOL.
I do 20ish(sometimes 24)hour fasts 2-3 times a week but for the most part I'm 16/18 with 2 meals. I love going to Krav Maga on a 20+hour fast. something about it makes me hit harder and move faster.

I've eaten plenty of 3500 calorie meals. And I'm only 5'9" and 172 pounds now. But I do know how it feels to be full enough to have to stop eating. It's happened to me TWICE so far in my life. So now I actually believe people who say they can't eat that much. But, physiologically, most people can fill their stomach with up to a gallon of fluid, or similar volume of food.
