Restaurant meats
Reading these forums, I'm surprised how many people still eat the meat at restaurants... isn't that basically the lowest of the low quality beef/chicken/etc. from the most mistreated and hormone/antibiotic-injected cows/huge-breasted-chickens? I guess some people are willing to make exceptions for the "fun" of eating at restaurants (I adore cooking, where's the fun in paying someone else to cook FOR me with a bunch of cheap ingredients?) or maybe aren't aware of the prevalence of nasty meat.. Or maybe ya'll live near nice restaurants that serve organic meats? (definitely not the case here) Just something I keep noticing that surprises me since everyone here seems so health-conscious. Do you just let it slide for the sake of being social?

I go out to Chipotle or Freebirds (both burrito-style restaurants) a lot, as they both use more humane and/or organic meats and ingredients.

"Fed a vegetarian diet"...wouldn't that essentially mean "was forced to unnaturally subsist on GMO soybean byproduct"?

Dude, it's 80/20. And I HATE most of the invocations of 80/20 around here. You are suffering from food fascism and possibly orthorexia. The stress is doing more damage to you than the occasional less-than-stellar-sourced meat.

either / or:
a) we let it slide for the sake of being social - admittedly, it's crazy to care about spending fun times with friends and family, but for some of us that's important
b) it's part of the whole 80/20 thing
c) we live in parts of the country where you can get nice food at restaurants. Or other countries.
Or all of the above! So, ixnay on the smugness, dude.

Research maybe?

You could call and check with the restaurants upfront and accordingly eat there. That's what I do!!

Whatever works for you... Personally, I'm not stressed... When I eat shitty meat, I feel shitty. When I cook awesome foods for myself, I feel great. If it means I avoid restaurant meat indefinitely I'm fine with that. When people ask why I'm just eating salad, though, I might have to launch on my meat quality rant. Part of being aware means you can't cheat without guilt. Even so, I strive to be more aware of what I put in my body every day.
Amazed that even HERE people will call me "smug"? For the way I eat? Eat the way you want, bro, don't get mad when I point out what out you're eating
Also, I work at a restaurant. Maybe that's part of why I avoid them. I know too much about how the food gets handled...lots of no-gloves action going on. But hey, 80/20 right?

"Demented and sad.....but social." Just go out, relax, and pick the most primal option that suits you and don't stress out over it. I went to Fogo De Chao this week. The lamb was amazing.

Eat meat, veggies, and fruit. Try to avoid everything else. Relax. Live your life. Food is too delicious to feel guilty about.

Weak sauce, dude. I call troll.
CAFO meat was probably the best thing a lot of us regularly ate before going primal. Now, it's relegated to the status of an occasional indulgence for many of us.
If you're suggesting that we are wrong not to feel guilt at having poisoned ourselves with a little GMO corn-fed CAFO-raised meat in the company of friends once in a great while, you've lost the plot.
(And that's coming from someone who smugly judges many of the posters on here) ;)
You're proscribing the very essence of the 80/20 concept. Not the "I eat pizza and drink beer 3 days a week, it's my 20%." But the "I'm out with friends, so I ordered a steak and steamed broccoli at a restaurant that doesn't have grass-fed beef and organic produce."
I'm glad I don't have to live inside your head.
