I stayed up until after the President's speech, watching. Then spent another hour chatting with friends, then read for an hour to switch my mind into sleep mode. Result: 4 hours of sleep! Luckily, I was able to balance it with 11 hours last night. At the expense of any social interaction in the evening, but with two teenagers in the house, it wasn't really missed. Well, maybe it was. My Honey came to bed half an hour after I did. So we're both well-rested this morning, bopping around the house and getting an early start to the day.
Yeah I am all rested up and just in time to shovel a half a foot of snow from the driveway! Boy's school was canceled and I took the day off to stay with him. We've had fun in the snow and now having a bite of lunch.
Snow? Wow. I've only seen a few flakes in the air up here in the supposedly frozen North. But yeah, that qualifies as exercise, for sure.
@Judg Yes it was an early Nor'easter. Got a lot of press here in the Northeast US coming on the heels of "Superstorm Sandy" We got about 5 - 6-inches of snow, but relatives away from the coast got 8 - 10-inches. Our power didn't go out thankfully. There were concerns of widespread outages, but I do not believe it was as bad as feared.
We were told - west of Philly - to expect some of that storm..... basically we saw a little bit of wind, and some rain.... none was severe at all. The worst part was the temps, which are running about 18 degrees below normal.
My weight hasn't changed much, up or down, for the past few weeks. I guess I'm in a holding pattern for awhile.
I was reading a post on MDA a few weeks back that was talking about how the fall time is when our bodies slow down burn cycles and hold onto fat as a natural way to keep us warm in the winter. The article alluded to the idea that It's part of a yearly burn cycle and that it's a necessary step in order to experience burn after winter. If you're holding a steady weight (as I am as well) it's definitely better than gaining and most likely a part of the yearly cycle.
And of course for reference as to what I'm talking about: Fall Foods: Why Seasonal Eating Primes the Body for Fat Burning | Mark's Daily Apple
Hope that helps calm your nerves. I posted this one to my own journal a few weeks back and I've seriously just come to terms with the fact that not losing/not gaining is better than nothing and that that's just going to be the pattern for the next while until winter fully sets in.
I must be in that same pattern!
We seem to just have the edge of the nor'easter - it snowed last night but turned to rain - quite a bit of rain. Not too bad though. I am wishing and hoping the best for those already suffering from Sandy. Of course I have to go to work in the dark and the rain. I really like the dark but not to drive in. The roads are dark dark dark. Very few lights.
It is definitely better than nothing. It's WAY better than nothing. Think about it. Millions upon millions of people lose weight. And millions and millions of them gain it all back, with some extra. The real battle is won by keeping it off. Think of it as establishing a beachhead, a staging point for future offensives. When the time is right, it will start falling off again, and you will be refreshed in your determination to make it happen. Ask me how I know... ;)
FWIW, a physician that I work with has lost and regained 20 lbs in the time that I have lost my 30 lbs. Kind of sobering, isn't it?
Thanks for weighing in on my car troubles, David. That really took me back because...when I bought this car 15 years ago, the friend who helped me told me the same thing, and that is how I ended up buying this car. It was a bit more car than I really wanted, but he urged me to get a really good car that would be reliable and would last. And I did. And it did.
Ugh... I had a horrible weekend, food wise and everything else. Thank goodness I am leaving for Providence RI for a trade show in a couple of minutes.
I hurt my lower back and my shoulder, this put me into a bad mood which unfortunately soured my disposition enough that SWMBO and Boy didn't want to be around me. Probably a good thing. We finally had halloween after it being postponed by our town due to one storm and then another.
I might have had a problem with Snickers bars...
Fortunately, they made me very sick to my stomach so I was able to writhe alone in my collective misery long enough to realize what an ass I had been. I guess it's good to have the occasional bump in the road, I hope I learn from it.
I made my apologies all around and am ready to move forward.
