My car is running!
yyaaayyyyyy!!!!! Can't wait to hear about it :D
GO WATCH IT!
A slightly less epic tale of my own. :o
I know... I got totally side tracked by Pirates, Band of Misfits last night!
Such a cute movie. :o
I have a Neuro appointment this morning... so for now THIS.
Because those Gafunkle and Oates girls are hilarious...
If you are feeling really adventurous find an watch their "Loophole" video. :p
(Serious NSFW warning on Loophole! ... )
And when I get back I'll regale you all with the opening of the Pandora's Box that is/was my sweet little car this weekend.
(Since we didn't take it to the shop at all... )
They're so cute! (Did you see "Go Kart Racing Accidentally Masturbating?")
As you all know Bettie was supposed to go to the shop.
Well, Bettie didn't want to... the stubborn little wench.
While she had tenuously started a few times before, when she was initially returned to us from being rewired, it was never right(always on the key release instead of the turn, gah).
And she was having absolutely none of it now.
So, being that we either needed to get her temporarily running to get her a couple of miles to the shop, or get a trailer to haul her there... husband and I, along with a trusty friend, popped her boot open on Saturday to see what we could find.
First things first. Double checked and made sure all of the auxiliary parts OTHER than the wiring that are involved in providing spark to the engine were in good working order... Check.
It would be really foolish to dig into wiring and skip that step, even though I know it's a mess. Hehehe.
I did mostly reconnaissance since I can't really spend much time bending over standing on my head anymore.
I googled up a proper wiring diagram and had a good review of what was what and where it was SUPPOSED to go.
Then we had a look at where things really were.
Saturday's "It's running" post was inspired by the first and most blatantly obvious humdinger...
The ignition wire was not connected. Seriously.
Instead of pulling through a full length wire the asshat had pulled through a wire that was too short then "connected" them... then put them inside of wrap, NOT connected properly so of course they came apart. /head desk.
End result... after sitting nearly a year and a half... that sweet little ACVW engine roared to life and purred like a kitten on the first try once the wire was properly soldered, crimped on both sides, and covered/protected in heat shrink.
Of course... then she was running and we could see the bigger picture though.
We decided to have at it again the next day.
Sunday... this is what we found and fixed.
The headlights were wired wrong.
One worked... one didn't.
The headlight switch wire was not hooked up at all, so no high beam/low beam switch.
The brake light and emergency lights were wired backwards.
And he also never installed a new fuse panel...
I still have original ceramic fuses in there.
And finally... the voltage regulator was not wired in properly and my generator is fried.
I have to either get my old one rebuilt, or spend about $200 for a new regulator and new generator.
But other than that... she is road worthy again!
I renewed her tags today.
Everything is "put back" as it should be sort of temporary.
We will be going back in and setting things straight like they should have been done to start with later.
Right now husband is putting a new transmission, shift kit, and 5in lift, on his '73 Bronco... so after that Back to Bettie. :D
Purr purr purr says the Ghia.
It makes me so angry (from the memories of my stupid old bug) to hear that that guy was so fucking incompetent that he got the BLINKERS and HEADLIGHTS wrong. It's absurdly simple!!!!!

And that's what I love about them...
Husband's buddy is a V8 head... all about they muscle cars... he's one of the one's who likes to tease me about putting a blower out the hood of her to make her into a "real car" sometimes.
After we got the ignition wire back together on Saturday I told hubs I was going to fire her up and hubs was all "Cool"...
His friend just looked back and forth between us going... "Man, it's been sitting for over a year... you can't just think it'll start up like that?"
And there I go... vroommmm.... puurrr... puurr puuuurrrr.... *GRIN*
Dude just shook his head.
Some times you just have to respect simple.
