Hello, o unflashy person effecting key and time signature changes with shameless aplomb.
Thank you!
Came home from work STARVING. About the only time I miss cereal is at times like this. I opened the refrigerator, saw the goat milk, and thought, "Too bad I don't eat cereal anymore." Cereal is just about the fastest meal ever. I don't miss the taste, however, or the way it made me feel, or the fact that I could eat an entire box and still be hungry. And it is also silly, as I can make a great meal in about five minutes, which I did - chopped up some pastrami, sauteed it quickly, scrambled an egg into it with a bit of cheese. Then I had some raspberries with coconut cream. Ei-yi-yi! Now, of course, I am wide awake, but I need to sleep as I am working tonight.
I hope everyone has a wonderful day!
Siobhan, have you ever tried the primal granola? You mix raw seeds(sunflower, pumpkin pepinos), coconut flakes, and nuts(sliced almonds, walnut pieces) with coconut oil, cinnamon, and honey, and toast them on low for about an hour an a half. Keep it in the fridge, so the coconut oil doesn't go liquidy on you. My girls do rice chex, and a little chex mixed with the granola and some berries is a great full-on cereal substitute if you indulge in chex. if not, I find it is lovely just with cream, all by its lonesome.
OK. I want to know how to do crisp on the outside, soft on the inside, whole wheat croissants primally. That's what I miss on a Sunday a.m. with a latte or a coffee and cream.
Dcarr10760 -- I've always heard about ground cherries, but never had them. Let us know if you do. Ingriguing.
Thanks for that, Sabine, I am going to make some of that to take with me on my upcoming retreat. I'm a bit worried about the food. The leader said something about quinoa and whole grains. I sent an email saying I am gluten intolerant. Don't really want to explain the whole primal thing. For one thing, this is a retreat, not a primal info session. I'm going to take some cans of tuna, sardines, seaweed, etc. It's lovely and cool here, so I probably won't have to worry about liquid coconut oil. Wondering if I should take a jar of butter. Did you know that mason jars are great for transporting butter? It's true.
Alas, Pam, I don't think there is any way to do croissants. If I ever get back to Paris, I will probably risk the gluten reaction and have that very brekkie. It will be worth it.
Ground cherries are swoon-worthy. I have had to cut back because I was spending $10 a day on them. Yes, I was.
Today is Yom Kippur. I have decided to fast. I will take water because I am working, but no food for 25 hours.
Yom Kippur hasn't quite started here. The sun is still shining brightly. Weird to think it's dark in Maine. I used to communicate a lot with an orthodox rabbi in Brooklyn, N.Y., and timing was strange. I felt like I started shabbos early every week, as communication stopped when the sun went down in Brooklyn -- but then he could start communicating before me.
Yes, I need water too, even if not working -- which I am tomorrow. If I don't drink water I get the worst headaches and can't eat when it's over!!
Oh, yes. Parisian pastries. I could go on, but won't as you're fasting.
So, I'm reading a collection of Isaac Bashevis Singer instead of fasting. Yes, I know. Not at all orthodox.
Hey, can you take nuts to the retreat? Is it a religious retreat or...? Enjoy and return refreshed and invigorated.
Tzom kal (have an easy fast).
Oy veh!
Yes, a spiritual/religious retreat that my Tuesday morning prayer group has organized. It's not for three weeks, but you know how these things creep up on you, especially if food transport is involved. I'll be taking nuts for sure! And fruit. Whatever I can think of. I don't want to make a big deal of my dietary requirements, but I don't want to get off track either. I won't eat grains, no how, no way.
As you indicated, I usually say I'm glutten intolerant, which seems to work. Wishing you well!
I bet you'll have a great time. You can even take jerky! Dried blueberries and canned milk. Endless possibilities:-) How long will you be gone?
Only three days. I'm looking for a decent jerky without nasty things in it. All the jerky I have found, even at the co-op, contains a fair amount of sugar. But I will find some. You know what will happen? I'll pack a load of food, and then the place will provide me with excellent primal fare.
Things that are annoying me but aren't really problems:
The break room at work is being turned into an office. The only microwave and refrigerator I will have access to will be in a patient area. In this time of cost-cutting and budget problems and lay-offs the powers-that-be, in their infinite wisdom, decided to remove a bathroom for this office that the upcoming tenant does not even want. He had asked for a bigger desk, not a bigger office.
It is really cold in my office at night. I'm wearing two coats and a blanket. I have a little space heater but it doesn't even make a dent in the cold. I think the A/C for the whole building pours in here.
I must have left the charger for my Kindle Fire at home. It's not in my backpack.
These are not really problems. (Everyone should have such problems.) But I'm annoyed. Oh, and so much for my looking great. I just went upstairs to check something, and a nurse stopped me and went on and on about how tired I look and I should take steps to avoid becoming so exhausted. My protestations that I am not tired or exhausted were ignored. Hmmmm.
