It really is a very cool book.
I love that Mark's post yesterday has 5 pages of comments. It really struck a chord. Today, I will climb something.
As for yesterday, I managed to write down most of it:
Up at 5:30
9:30 2 eggs with
greens gratin and bearnaise sauce
3:00 beef patty
bearnaise sauce
4 cream cheese clouds, hereafter to be referred to as 'clouds'
7:30 salmon patty with
bearnaise sauce
1 slice of mozzarella/prosciutto roll-up
Water: 7 glasses
Walking: 45"
Bed at 8:30
I also did a little stretching at the gym, and loosened up my hips a bit. I'm foolishly proud that I can still put my hands flat to the floor when I bend over (legs straight).
Did not eat in time this morning, and set myself up for a FAIL. Luckily, I used my noggin, and ate some pork rinds with sour cream before and 2 clouds after, and managed to convince both my brain and stomach that I was satisfied. (Which I was, but sometimes my body doesn't get the message and goes prowling.)
Having a lovely morning, cooking, and working on projects. I think I have figured out where this back pain is coming from- too much driving. My morning routine has drastically altered this semester, and with the bad weather calling for rides to work for Honey, I have been spending more time than usual in the car. I need to remember to stretch.
On the ticket for today: a new batch of greens gratin, some shakshuka (!), coco-chocs with macadamias for the road trip this weekend, banana bread for the family, patties for the dogs, and horseradish sauce. The last got delayed due to my late breakfast. I HAD to fry up some fish and scarf it down quickly (plus delaying tactics- see above) and could positively, absolutely NOT wait to make sauce and let the flavors meld. Screw that! I was HUNGRY!
Please, please, let me remember to be gracious, and grateful. Some people are there to be examples of what NOT to do, right? I just hope I'm not one of them, too. It is easy to be oblivious of your own faults.

Watch out when you are grating the horseradish! That stuff is intense!
Sabine, you can freeze white wine. Thats what I do with leftovers (we don't drink white wine. Only red). Just freeze them in ice cube trays!
Leftover wine??????

I'm impressed with the amount of projects you've been doing.
Perhaps I need to adopt your goal...

Yes, I opened the bottle, poured out the amount required for the recipe, and put the bottle back in the fridge. It's a strange custom, not understood by many. :)
Strangely, although grating the horseradish almost put me on the floor, the intensity of the finished sauce is not what I expected. Although in general I am a spice wimp, I DO like my horseradish sauce to have a kick to it. I am going to be upping the proportion of horseradish to sour cream. I guess the fat in the sour cream must cut the intensity A LOT.
Here's yesterday:
Up at 5:30
10:45 pork rinds with sour cream
8oz tilapia fried in bacon grease
1/2C zuccini tossed with
a spoonful of goat cheese
2 clouds
3:30 beef stew
1 1/2oz roquefort
6:30 caulifower with butter and green onions
pork chop with horseradish mustard
olives
2 clouds
8:00 & 10:30 coco-choc with macadamias
Water: 7 glasses
Walking: nope
Doze on the sofa from 8:30-10:00
Bed at 11:00
The interrupted sleep was due to having to pick Middlest up from a friend's. So was the second coco-choc. The first one was because I wanted to test the recipe. I say it passed with flying colors. :)
My plan today is to eat breakfast a little earlier. Yesterday I was ravenous before I ate, and I think I ate more than I needed, what with the appetizer AND dessert.
For some reason, my breakfast did not satisfy. Insufficient fat? So I'm having an early lunch, the first trial of the extra-strength horseradish sauce.
Where ya been woman?? I hope all is well.

Anyone else read this with a Jamaican accent?
I guess so. Middlest and I went off on a college visit, and then Littlest had dibs on the computer for a big term project. It is sort of restful, being away from the computer, but then as soon as I am back, I'm all wrapped up in it again.
Fell off the wagon rather drastically with banana bread and homemade southwestern eggrolls, and felt like CRAP as a consequence. Serves me right, but it was still scary how bad I felt. Oh, well. Back on track.
I will go off to catch up on what y'all have been doing.
