Gearing up for Thanksgiving
The house is clean(mostly). The counters are cleared. The lists are made.
Now the fun begins.
With our sink problems I have come up with the (brilliant!) idea of making some of the vegetable dishes ahead of time. I really love all the cooking on The Day so I've never bothered do much ahead stuff(Except for pies. Let's face it, there's no way for a normal person to make 20 pies in one day.) But not wanting to be lugging pail after pail of water away, I've gotten crafty.
I'm going to make the cranberry sauce, the creamed spinach, the green beans, the sweet potatoes, and the corn-crookneck squash dishes today(up to the point of being cooked). They will all hold well, and may even taste better for two days of 'melding'.
I'm also going to make a few of the sturdier pies.
Several years ago I bought party servers that hold five pies each- three of them. Those will come out of the attic and be ready to receive.
I'll also be moving the furniture around a bit today. Our kitchen table is a little cramped for six, and since we'll be pulling out the extras for 8+ on Thursday anyway, I'm just going to do it ahead of time this year, and move our L-bench into the family room. Well, unless it looks horrible. Then I will put it all back as quickly as possible.
Hope everyone is having as good a time as I am!
