So the reason why I started paleo was that I was going through a diabetes scare. I was was frequently peeing 5-6 times a night, tired all the time, and my vision was going hard and fast. The blindness came up about a week before a vacation and I decided after the vacation I would start on my primal journey. Well 2 weeks ago I went to the doctors to get a requisition for blood work. Talked my doctor through my symptoms and told him about paleo. Got a much different response than I expected. Doc was not surprised at all that eating the way I had been had good effects on me and even congratulated me on my weightloss. He also told me that it is very likely that I had/have developed diabetes. Well my bloodwork came back. If I did have it it's now gone! Woo! Not to mention that I had to chase my doctor's office to get my results because they hadn't planned on calling me: everything came back normal. I forgot to bring my blood work to work so I can scan it and show you guys but I do have my cholestorol numbers in my blackberry.
Cholestorol 3.89 mmol/L (Healthy Range is anything under 5.2 mmol/L)
LDL 2.98 ("Optimal" range 2.6-3.3)
HDL 0.81 (Considered poor... Guess I need to up my omega 3's)
And there you have it folks!
Food for yesterday
Breakfast- Coconut milkshake with 1 banana, and raspberries (no cocoa). 1 piece of G+B choco mint
Lunch- Can of tuna with mustard, 2 cups mixed redpeppers and cherry tomato
Dinner- Steak, Zuchinni speghetti with lamb and groundbeef sauce, big as salad, 2 pieces lindt 99%
Keep forgetting my supplements... probably why my HDL's are so low :(
I would have to say NOT GOING BLIND (!) is the best reason ever for going primal. I'm very pleased for you, Ecks!
Ecks, I made up a health journal template that I fill out and post here every day. I put a line there for my vitamins because I always forget too. I am horrifically absent-minded, so I need all the help I can get. And yes, I just bought some fish oil capsules. PaleoTracker convinced me my Omega 3s needed help, despite the flaxseed and hempseed.
And congrats on the healthy numbers! Glad you caught your health problems before it was too late!
Wow, good on you Ecks!
That's is the BEST NEWS EVER to hear from you! Way to go!
Hey, ecks --
Just thinking. Arugula, kale, avocados, brussel sprouts, cabbage, winter squash, broccoli, collard greens, and spinach all have omega 3's. Won't list the beans for you:-):-) Sometimes it's good to get things from lots of sources. You know the animal ones!
Do you use asafoetida in your cooking? Interesting stuff with an unusual smell, but I'm thinking I like it. Suddenly, for the first time in my life, beans work -- which for me is huge, as my body reallly likes all the minerals in them. And with the asafoetida, I'm not polluting the environment with methane!
Hey guys, may not post much today or tomorrow. I'm kind of in a rough place right now. Still eating primal but I'm on a mental spiral. I probably won't explain when I post next and I'd rather not talk about things. I'll try keep up in reading everyone's journals through this time but probably won't post/comment.
Prayers for you that it all works out to the best end. My thoughts are with you.
You don't need to tell us anything. All you need is to know we love you and we are sending you warm thoughts full of warmth and caring. You give us much joy and teach us much. Take care of yourself.
Warmly,
Pam
