Have you ever read the Craisin ingredients? Sugar, sugar, sugar. Oh, I think they might have added cranberries, too.
HB: Doh!! THATS what I did wrong!! ;)
ok, you have inspired me, on my next costco run I am going to get some stuff to dehydrate for the boys. What do you think is most likely to get me to a chip like crunchiness?
p.s. Ruth, sorry for hijacking your journal-tell us to buzz off and we can continue this in mine if you want.
sweet or savory?
Sweet.. apples are a good one. Now for dd, I did an experiment and used some left over sprite on the slices before dehydrating. They did not turn yellow. They say lemon juice works or citric acid but at the time I did not have any.
Savory..zuc chips or carrot chips would be easy.
Since you are in a humid area, you may need to run it longer. I think if you let it cool completely before putting it in ajar they will keep their crunch.
thanks, I will see what they have.
I love dehydrator talk. Keep it coming. I have a VERY basic one - you turn it on or you turn it off. Someday I want a fancier one.
I pureed my carrots, added spices, then dehydrated them. I couldn't get the sliced carrots right. I'm not really good at it, but I'll be trying more again soon.
Day 2 went pretty well. Macros:

1 more day left. Then I travel for 2 days, home for 2 days, travel 2 more days. Then (hopefully!!!!) travel is done for the month.
Ruth mine is one like yours I think. Tell me about your carrot puree.. not sure if I have a tray for that.
I bought these tray that go on top of the regular trays (the holes are really small). I puree cooked carrots, ghee, and chai tea masala (cardamon, cinnamon, pepper, etc.). The house smells divine! They take forever. Of course, I pull mine out earlier -- mom has dentures & DH has braces -- they like things softer than I would.
I recently started an affair with a dehydrator- loving it! I did blueberries, and they turned into the mini nuggets just right for mixing into my daughters' nut butter balls. Aldi has pineapples on sale for 99 cents, so I think that will be the next thing I try. Must put carrots and zucchini on my list as well.
