Kind of proud of myself. Have been balking at [url=http://www.bountifulbaskets.org/?page_id=21]bountiful baskets[/url] for several months now. The process kind of intimidated me, since I didn't understand how it works. Tonight I was beckoned by the promise of tropical fruit and vanilla bean pods and signed up for the organic basket. Excited now. I hope this leads to a reduced monthly grocery bill.
I get brownie points for doing my first primal basket of organic co-op produce, right? :)

I LOVE bountiful baskets! We get one every other week and it is so fun figuring out what to do with it all.
I am going to try to start basing our meals around it. Should be an adventure!
I was surprised to learn Bountiful Baskets is available here in the outback. One of my neighbors was going on & on about all the lovely, wholesome [I]baked goods[/I] that came with hers so I dismissed it as a bad deal. Are there veggie-only options?
My aunt suggested I check it out but I'm confused as to how it works even though I read it like five times. I don't think it has any coop places out here in Oregon though, unless I'm remembering wrong.
LJH, I think the baskets are supposed to be produce only? it might be a different sort of basket group thing that you have.
OK, I checked it out - there are several different 'packages' one can order and some include breads, etc., which is what my neighbor must have ordered. But even the all-produce one is 50% fruit, so I'll pass.
For those that have ordered the baskets, are there enough veggies for 5 dinners for a couple? I'm interested in this for my husband and I, but I need to determine if it will actually save us money.
So how does this thing work? I get the overall picture, but the details?
Does the 'co-op' buy produce nationally and distribute it to the pick up sites, or is each site run independently? The closest location is over 2 hours from me but we have enough like minded friends eating with us in East Texas now that we could probably support a group. Mrs. Freqz and I could probably manage to run the distribution side of things but not the sourcing/purchasing side.
I'd be interesting in knowing how you like it. And like freqz, I am wondering if it is locally sourced produce or nationwide. Enjoy!

My best friend first told me about BB and she is always trying to give me produce she gets cuz they can't use it fast enough. So, it's safe to say yes there's plenty of produce :)

Mine gets their produce from California & Mexico (I'm in UT, so you can decide how local-vore it is). You sign up for the basket you want (conventional, organic, and/or the other add on stuff), and pick it up that Saturday at the designated location. Every week they send an email with what's available. It's always 50% veggies and 50% fruit, but it's also a surprise.
