I can drive stick, I just prefer not to. If I ever get a NICE little beastie (say an Aston Martin or a Ferrari) I will get it stick, just because it's a shame to have automatic in such a wonderful car..
If you ever get one of the above I am driving to Texas to bum a ride lol.
I started learning how to use power tools when I was 8 from my mom. When I was in college, I was the only person that didn't need to take the beginners course on how to use power tools for the set dept in the Theater. The only thing that I needed to be trained on was how to use an air compressor and a pneumatic nail gun. I've even welded before. I'm much better at painting than anything though. I also learned how to paint walls, refurbish furniture and staining wood when I was 8.
Damn, that is impressive. I'm lucky if I don't accidentally hit myself more than the nails.

Well, when we move, I'll make a visit and teach you the finer points of using a hammer.

LOL I can see it now, "Yes, you hit things with this end. NO! The other side of that end. Oh %#$^ give it here!"

I was raised by a accountant that wished he was a woodworker and my grandfather was an electrical engineer that retired to become a woodworker. The smell of sawdust, mineral oil, wood stain and fabric softener (the workbench was right beside the laundry machines) reminds me of home and being little. I sanded down and restained my dresser, whittle and stain my own hair sticks (well I did back when I had longer hair), make chopsticks, carved my own walking stick... all sorts of fun stuff.

Very nice. To be honest for me I think it is more a lack of patience and space. Between the Army and now I have lived in very small places where you can barely fit a foot locker let alone a woodworking bench. I am also the kind of guy who says, "Hmm...I need a desk, I could have the satisfaction of learning how to build one or I could have one now from Walmart. Walmart it is." The crafty/handy type stuff is on my 'when I have a house and time' wishlist.

I'll probably say, "Let's hope your gf is better at hitting things than you are!"
My dad was an ex-cop who grew up on a farm and mom was a factory worker/waitress and when dad was really bad with MS the rest of us in the house sort of "manned up" if you will. We were brought up fully with the belief that anything a man can do, we can do just as well if not better.

Except pee standing up. Women can never take that one away from us. There, I feel better for men everywhere ;)

Mom was... indifferent to a lot of the details of raising us. Dad and all our relatives raised us with "So what, girls can do that too." We were never given the option to weenie out due to our gender. We played soccer, hell, my youngest sister played soccer on a boys rec team because the girls were all afraid of the damn ball. I came home with a C on a paper because I went with a feminist approach to the question, my Dad told me to take it up the chain of command. I got my A. Like I said, our gender was never an excuse.

And it shouldn't be. I tend to get very irritable about gender issues and equality in generally mainly because I am rather anal about definitions etc. Equal to me means equal not equal but... I do not mean that men and women are identical as that is simply not true (beyond genetalia etc) but everyone should be treated equally.
It is my main issue with the pescatarian thread over in nutrition. The guy's wife is deciding what the child will eat. Uh, that is not her kid. It is theirs.
