No such thing as cold water here outta the pipes in FL. I use Cold in the washing machine in the summertime because it certainly qualifies as Warm for most of the US.
Of course, nothing like when I wanted cold water out of the tap in Gila Bend, AZ and it was 104 degrees! I thought there was a plumbing problem in the motel and when I told the clerk he laughed and informed me.
I think any perceived or claimed health benefits are imaginary. Show me the cites!
Have a 10 minute cold shower atleast once a day, mostly 2x.
Today, swim in the local quarry (Canada), November 4, 52degrees, 20 minutes
Also walking daily for 1 hour with just summer shorts, mesh safety vest. Outside temp about 38.
Nuts? Dedicated? Devoted? Desperate?
i actually done it a few time. i felt relaxed after i was in cold water. don't know why though
Cold showers are extremely therapeutic and energizing. Exposure to cold (immersion, showers, weather) has been shown to activate brown fat cells (the ones that burn fat, as opposed to those "lazy" white fat cells). Mark Ferris of 4 Hour Body fame has experimented with full immersion in a tub of ice cubes (not recommended). Mark does recommend finishing showers with a systematic cold water blast starting at the shoulders and working down. It's hard to do and I find using a handheld spray makes it a bit more tolerable. It's not harmful and a zippy way to start your day!
there was a storm here over the weekend so we went to the Wadi pools in the Oman mountains yesterday. They were a bit parky!
I haven't tried an icebath yet, but I have been ice packing around my shoulders and stomach. I have also been gradually decreasing the temperature of my showers to the point that when my wife jumped in with me, she immediately jumped back out and started asking if something was wrong with the water heater.
