No surprise here :)
There's something about "findings" like this that bothers me. Most people will readily admit that they feel household pets like cats and especially dogs are sensitive beings capable of emotions like compassion, but we need research to tell us that such emotions are also inherent in the animals that human beings evolved from. It seems to point to a basic mistrust of of human nature, and the belief that humans are basically evil and must be taught to be good. And that doesn't leave me feeling very warm and fuzzy.
