I had "high" cholesterol, which seems to run in my family. I was on statins for about a year, and then I realized I was wasting my money and gambling with my health, so I stopped taking them. I'd never liked eggs before, but then I started eating eggs and bacon every day when I switched to paleo and my cholesterol went down. I don't remember the numbers, but it was low enough to make me feel pretty smug. I also lost 25lbs. I know it was mostly fat I lost, because I was lifting progressively heavier weights the whole time. My macros are generally 50% fat, 30% protein, 20% carbs - and yes, many of us eat copious amounts of butter!
