    Interesting video to compare and contrast with the Gary Taubes lectures. An eye opener and definately food for thought or confirmation depending on your point of view.

      Yes, a major thread here about two weeks ago about the video.


      I see Taubes' work not so much a contrast but additive to the obesity discussion. Remember, his work was focused on third world nations and poverty, Lustig's on the affluent (and corpulent!) USA.


      They are both right in the overall. Both have some flaws at one point of another but the major hypothesis' are correct.

        Hey, thanks, great video! I'm half way through it. I have a question: my protein powder (Optimum Nutrition) has 5 grams of sugars from fructose per serving, is that really bad?

            Raphael...do you have the standard ON protein or the 100% gold standard, the gold has 1g of Sugar and no fructose...

              No, I have the Natural Strawberry one...


              I am almoste finished with the video and I learned that fructose is okay as long as its consumed with fiber (fruits) so next time I take my protein shake I will add something fibrous to it (I used to use oats, but can&#39;t anymore). I hope that that will cancel out the fructose...

                Raphael, that matter of fructose with fiber is an unanswered question. I posed it as an observation on the original video thread. No one came up with anything.


                Also, most fruit has, um, at most, only 3 or 4 grams of fructose. Running on my memory there, so maybe someone will know otherwise. Usually an equal-ish amount of sucrose, which is half fructose.


                I&#39;m avoiding fructose like the plague it is.

                    @rlphslv , I don't believe Dr.Lustig implied addition of fibre would nullify or lessen the effects of fructose. He said eating fruit is ok, since all that fibre would reduce the rate of absorption IIRC. In any case, primal fruits like berries have low sugar anyway and have much to offer by way of vitamins and antioxidants.
