  • PB Cure for the Prostate

There is no longer any question about it. 9 weeks into Primal, and I can see major improvements in my Prostate functions. Mostly in the past 2 weeks. This week my prostate is cured.

Good, strong urination, no longer starting & stopping, complete evacuation, no multiple trips to the bathroom every night, AND powerful ejaculations like teenager once again. I'm not sure exactly why this cure happened. I changed a bunch of things in the last 2 weeks. It must be related to one or more of the following:

Here is what has changed over the past 2 or 3 weeks:
    1) Started taking Vitamin D3, 10,000 IU ( 2-gelltabs ) each morning.
    2) Started drinking 6 ozs coconut milk, with 3 tablespoons shredded coconut added
--- about 200 gr of healthy 100% Saturated Fats, 900% of daily value
--- I am using "Thai Kitchen" Organic Unsweet First Pressed, almost all of it healthy saturated fats.
    3) Started taking apple vinegar, 1-tbsp in salad daily
    --- http://nutritiondata.self.com/facts/...nd-herbs/217/2
    4) Started eating 1 avocado for lunch each day
    --- http://nutritiondata.self.com/facts/...-juices/1843/2
    5) Started taking Fish Oil GellTabs last week

So which did the trick? Or was it all because of no grains & sugars? It looks like all of the above directly affect the prostate in Google Searches.

It looks like coconut milk was a major factor:
    http://www.organicfacts.net/organic-...conut-oil.html
"...Relieves symptoms associated with benign prostatic hyperplasia (prostate enlargement)...."
    http://www.coconutresearchcenter.org/
"..coconut oil actually decreased the risk of prostatic cancer (De Lourdes et al., 2007)..."
    http://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/coconut_oil.htm
"... Avocados are a rich source of monounsaturated fatty acids, beta-sterols and zinc31. All of these are helpful for prostate health..."
    http://www.avocado.org.au/resources/...er=ArticleDate
"...Studies show that activated vitamin D may be broken down in the prostate, where it may plays an important role in preventing enlarged prostate and prostate cancer. Vitamin D deficiency may increase the risk of prostate cancer...."
    http://www.articlesbase.com/diseases...ls-582250.html

At least for me, the above combination has cured my prostate problems, maybe it will help others? BTW) I am a HOT and SEXY 67 yrs young ;--)) Down to 216 lbs from a high of 235.

    Has anyone else noticed this?

    Best of health to all,
    Grizz

My father just got diagnosed with prostate cancer. The docs said he's got two choices, go under the knife, or get zapped with radiation. It's SO frustrating that he won't listen at ALL when I mention anything diet related (he's a more-or-less "healthy" conventional eater - no processed stuff and only a little sugar, but lots of grains, beans, low-fat meat, etc.). He just has no interest in changing his diet and doesn't believe anything unless a doctor says it. And of course no "normal" doctor is going to tell him anything other than what he's already been told.

So, he's pretty much opted for the $20,000 surgery with a month of having very little bladder control.

Even if I showed him your message Grizz, he'd just shrug and it wouldn't make any difference. Maybe it is too late in his case... no way to know.

      NeoPaleo,

I don't fully understand why my prostate functions have enjoyed such a miraculous recovery, but I am THRILLED about it.

Of course doctors want to operate. That is their CASH COW. They don't make any money from a healthy population. IT IS ALL ABOUT MONEY. Take a look at the links below my message. All of the nasty stuff regarding grains is from Cardiologist Dr. Wm Davis. Maybe your father might believe what Dr, Davis says. I, too was VERY skeptical until I read the newsletters from Dr. Davis.

It is clear from PB recent experience that healthy fats are essential to human health. Also likely to be essential to prostate health as in the coconut milk & avocado recently added to my diet.

      Best to your father,
      Grizz

Since this is a promising new thread, Lets get it off to a medically accurate start. We are discussing BPH. What is THAT?

        BPH FACTS:
        # Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia: enlarged prostate; appears to be part of the natural aging process
        # A non-cancerous condition in which the prostate swells because of an increase in the size of the constituent cells and causes the same symptoms. ...
        # A noncancerous enlargement of the prostate.
        # a condition usually found in older men, when the prostate gland swells, restricting urine flow. It shares a common cause and cure with male pattern baldness.
        # a benign enlargement of the inner part of the prostate which commonly occurs in men over the age of 50 and which may cause a constellation of urinary systems called "pro-statism."
        # A prostate problem that bothers men with age, BPH generally begins in a man's 30s, evolves slowly and only causes symptoms after 50.
        # A condition in which the prostate is enlarged. Found in 50 to 60 percent of men between the ages of 40 and 59, BPH results in frequent urination during the night, difficulty urinating, interrupted flow or dribbling during urination, and a reduced sex drive. ...

        * It is NOT prostate cancer. Some say it can eventually lead to cancer.
        * The prostate apparently needs zinc to function properly, although the exact mechanism is unknown.

So to reduce symptoms, incorporate these factors in your daily diet:

        * increase intake of fruits, vegetables and whole grains, soy, and green tea, foods rich in omega 3 oils (cold-water fish – salmon, sardines, mackerel) and in zinc (raw pumpkin seeds for omega-3 and zinc)
        * reduce foods high in fat and cholesterol (butter and margarine, beef and
whole milk), sweet foods, and refined carbohydrates (white bread and white-flour pasta)
        * avoid or decrease intake of alcohol, coffee, and beer, particularly after dinner, and tobacco
        * taking saw palmetto* supplements may benefit the prostate

        * Saw palmetto (Serona repens) is a type of palm tree, also known as the dwarf palm. Its primary medicinal value is in the oily compounds found in its berries. Most dietary supplements are composed of an extract or powder derived from the berries. Saw palmetto is believed to inhibit the actions of testosterone on the prostate that causes prostate enlargement.

Since the muscle is internal and is sometimes difficult to isolate, doctors often recommend practicing while urinating:
        # The patient is asked to contract the muscle until the flow of urine is slowed or stopped. He attempts to hold each contraction for ten seconds.
        # He then releases it.
        # In general, patients should perform five to 15 contractions, three to five times daily.

So perhaps my diet of the past 2 weeks are more or less equivalent to the natural oils in Saw Palmetto?

Hm, I'm of mixed opinions on this. At 62, i've been getting up once in the middle of most nights for at least a couple years, but since going "primal," have sometimes gone twice or even 3 times or more. However, I also notice that my urine has been nearly clear recently, which probably means I'm over hydrated for some reason. I also have sometimes noticed the stream is a good bit stronger than it used to be.

Been taking 500 mg. of saw palmetto for about a year. Also, have been getting a PSA once a year for a long time now, due for the next one this fall with annual checkup.

I may try the coconut and have already bought some D3, based on what I read on the vitamin D thread.

Thanks Grizz. I enjoy your posts.

Any particular brand or type of coconut milk? It's pretty widely available in the Miami area because of all the immigrants from the islands.

I am using "Thai Kitchen" Organic Unsweet First Pressed, I am drinking 1/2 can daily = 210 calories almost all of it healthy saturated fats. Then I mix in plenty of shredded coconut to give it real substance. Mark on Coconut Oil:

It is unlikely you will overdose on Vitamin D. Go ahead and take the max for your weight > 1,000 IU per 25 lbs body weight. My friends doctor told him to take 20,000IU daily to be certain he is getting enough. Overdose (arguably) does not begin until 100,000 IU Daily. So don't worry if your IU daily is a few thousand above the 1,000 IU Daily per 25 lbs body weight.

If you have any lingering issues, I highly recommend the book "Headache in the Pelvis". Men have a pelvic floor just like women (OK, not EXACTLY like women....) and anxiety about possible problems down there make men clench muscles they didn't even know existed, which then causes more pain and more anxiety and so the cycle goes. It's a fascinating book.
                          Liz.

Zone diet on and off for several years....worked, but too much focus on exact meal composition
Primal since July 2010...skinniest I've ever been and the least stressed about food

Periquin, 68 years young informs me he has NEVER had prostate problems, and is HOT to Trot. His regime is
                            ( comments mine )

                            1) Avacodos every day since forever
                            2) Can of Coconut Milk with nutmeg + Cinnamon since going Primal
                            3) Zinc Supplements for 50 years ( known to be a big help to the prostate)
                            4) Tribulus Fuel---It is a botanical testosterone imitator. A lot cheaper and sometimes works better than prescription testosterone. Old duffers at the VA use it to cure or prevent erection problems.
( This makes great sense because as we age, our testosterone declines, leading some to believe this is the cause of BPH )
                            ( reviews here http://www.iherb.com/Twinlab-Tribulu...ules/2442?at=1 )
                            5) dose pretty well with vit D, Omega 3, arctic fish oil, CoQ10, D-ribose, L-carnitine, and Vit C.
                            6) rotate caprylic acid, grape seed extract, and oil of oregano--change every month.
                            7) maintain a normal blood pressure--just on the edge of hypertension---with magnesium, kyolic, reconcostat, selenium, zinc

So here we have a 68 yo man free of BPH with things in common That I am taking.
                            Vitamin D
                            Avocado
                            Coconut Milk
Periquin's obvious improvements are zinc & his Tribulus Fuel.
Did I get all of this right, Mr. Periquin?

We are making GREAT progress for us OLD FARTS,
