  • I went for lunch with my (sneery) friend. She got a salad with avo, tomato, bread - with the dressing on the side. When it came out she got totally stressed that the olive oil was already mixed with the balsamic. She didn't want to eat the oil cos' it's "fattening". After vainly trying to get the balsamic out from underneath the oil (and polishing off the bread), she ordered a lemon meringue pie.

With a cherry on top = Meanwhile she rolled her eyes at me for not saying I was rethinking my vegetarianism.!
"I think the basic anti-aging diet is also the best diet for prevention and treatment of diabetes, scleroderma, and the various "connective tissue diseases." This would emphasize high protein, low unsaturated fats, low iron, and high antioxidant consumption, with a moderate or low starch consumption.

In practice, this means that a major part of the diet should be milk, cheese, eggs, shellfish, fruits and coconut oil, with vitamin E and salt as the safest supplements."

I can do it in one trick..... leave the macaroni out!
It makes me sad that people are trying hard to do the right thing but failing because they have the wrong information.
Without question, bacon is the most interesting meat in the world, and if it were capable of original thought, we wouldn't even be having an election this November in America. We would simply appoint bacon as our forever leader and live dutifully under its rule.

It's really horrifying that 2/3 "tips" arguably make it even less healthy. (3/3 if you include the fact that they recommend adding edamame as a "vegetable"...)

        • A co-worker told me he could never eat the way I do because he'd never be full just eating a salad...

The only "salad" I've ever eaten at work consisted of several hard-boiled eggs, grilled steak, bacon, avocado, a couple walnuts, and bleu cheese crumbles over a couple leaves of spinach. Pretty sure it would fill up a sedentary little 5'3" dude like him. Or an average lumberjack.

2nd story: Recently visited my brother-in-law and sister. They find my "odd way of eating" to be kind of fascinating/humorous and were asking me what I eat for lunch at work. I usually don't eat lunch, but I told them I make scrambled eggs in the microwave, which I do on occasion. Their comment was "don't people complain about the smell?" To which I responded "Ummm, not sure what kind of eggs you're familiar with, but scrambled eggs don't really smell that bad. And besides, everyone else makes stinky Lean Cuisine chemical-smelling garbage, so they have no right to complain." They just kind of lowered their eyes and said "We usually have Lean Cuisines for lunch at work."

Of course, this was about 5 minutes after my (quite overweight) sister was bragging/laughing about having toast and fruit for breakfast every day. Like she couldn't see a contrast between me at 12-14% bodyweight and herself. Or to be more fair, the contrast between her and my GF, who despite not being as athletic as myself is toned and looks good in a bikini, while my sister looks like she's still carrying the baby she gave birth to 11.5 months ago and wore some mumu/bathing suit contraption to the beach...

Oh god, that smell is just foul. And it lingers. And it isn't really a food smell.

Yeah people at my work are always commenting on my food and how good it looks while they tear open their boxes of frozen microwaveable pasta from TJs. And its just leftovers! Its not like im cooking a steak fresh just for lunch every day. I suggest that they could do the same thing i do--cook real food for dinner and bring in the leftovers for lunch--and they shrug it off at best, or seem perplexed at worst.

I feel like somehow, our culture seems to have started to be turned off to the idea of leftovers, probably cause were trained to think in terms of "single serving" portions of prepackaged things. Not surprising that the food industry would encourage this, since they dont get more money from us if were eating leftovers (kinda like how my company, a textbook publishing company, hates used books in the educational market and specifically designs college books to be flimsy so they fall apart faster).

I doubt you could taste the veg in the stew either what with the huge amounts of everything else.

People don't understand food. If she knew it would change things she'd eat a little bit better. Does she have a cole slaw episode? If not, I'd like to request she do one.

My boyfriend thinks my new lifestyle is crazy, but he tried to be helpful by suggesting I do weightwatchers. He thought I'd like the social support. 1) No one there would support me because I'm 6lbs 'below average' (based on American women, and... well, come on) for my height, and 2) It would be so much work to try to track what I was eating with them. A few pages back someone said they responded to a suggestion they get a calorie counting app with "My food doesn't come with barcodes." I wish I'd said that... instead I went off on a tangent about how I'd have to calculate each ingredient, and what a pain in the butt. My new response to anyone who suggests this is going to be the barcode thing.
