  • Funny CW Moment... DH and I do not have a microwave (have not for 7 years). I playfully proselytize about the joys of not having a microwave to my parents all the time. They live on convenience foods.
My mom recently found out she's gluten intolerant (hmmm) and is "trying" to eat gluten-free. Yesterday their microwave broke. I told her not to replace it and maybe it would help her cook more meats and veggies. She replied, "what about my favorite snack of cheese melted on a tortilla?"

    Seriously?

eta: she was not referring to a gluten-free tortilla.

Ha! I was in Whole Foods recently and overheard the following conversation:
Wife: "This yogurt has 15 grams of fat! Put it back!"
Husband: "I like fat. We're getting it."

I wanted to give the husband a high-five

She's doin' it wrong anyway, even ignoring the gluten. We used to make that snack all the time and it's nasty when done in a microwave. The right way to do it is to toast the tortilla in a dry frying pan and sprinkle on the cheese then fold over. Quesadillas! I do miss those...

My funny CW moment for the weekend (that's sad, not funny, actually), is that we're spending the weekend with extended family, and dh & I always make a huge bacon, sausage, and egg breakfast for everyone, every day, when we do this. I already mentioned that my sister is planning to eat cereal so she can save her calories for eating out, but another family member told me not to worry about going through all the effort, that there is a pancake house on every corner. weep weep. (I get constipated just thinking about a pancake house.)

          • not food related, but still think it's pretty funny when my boss wonders why her dog doesn't want to wear a dress. "you need to wear a dress!! come here!" xD

            edited to add:
on the box of Quaker oatmeal at work, on the back are the nutrition facts. there are little hearts next to "saturated fat" "cholesterol" and "soluble fiber" I thought that was cool, until I saw that there was ZERO sat fat, and ZERO cholesterol, and that's why the heart was next to it

            • Went to the health food store this weekend to get a few things. It was "sample craziness day!". Anyway, was walking by this gal giving samples of the RAW protein powder. She asked if I wanted a sample. I assumed it had soy (don't most things have soy?) and said, "no thanks I don't eat soy" anyway, she was quick to point out, no soy and no dairy and no... and no.... So I asked, so what gives it the protein? She says, it has sprouted grains!! I told her I do not eat grains. The look on her face was priceless. Her quote" So what DO you eat??!!". My answer, "meat and veggies" and kept walking. On hind sight, I should have said "BACON!" LOL

My co-workers said they'd have to hurt me if I just sucked the cheese sauce off the noodles and then spit them back onto my plate. But it's Boston Market!!! Their curly-noodle mac-n-cheese is one of my very mostest faybee-ruts! At least I was trying to stay as primal as possible... sigh
                Started 7/5/11 at 274 lbs
                Now 214 -- that's 60 lbs!
Goal 160 lbs -- last time there was in junior high!

                      • A guy I know who's recently started working out and trying to eat healthy: "I hadn't realised how much saturated fat a cake contains, it's worrying!"

Yes, he's worried about the saturated fat content of a CAKE, which is made almost entirely of white flour and sugar. Sigh.

                        • I swear, with all of the stuff I hear at work, I could dedicate a thread to it. My boss knows a couple of girlfriends who are on a "powder and vegetable diet". her daughter was like "well, what do they do when they lose weight? what do they eat when they're done?" and boss was like "they're just gonna stay on the powder, they have to, forever!"

                          • I have a friend who's kid has chronic ear infections. She posted on FB that she was taking him to an ENT, so I asked her if he eats dairy. She was like, "He reallyy doesn't eat THAT much dairy, blah blah blah, it's just because the fluid is trapped and has nowhere to go." I guess it never occurred to her that it's not normal to have excess fluid and mucus, as if the fact that its trapped is the whole problem. Now she just posted that he's getting his SECOND set of tubes. The poor kid. It's getting increasingly harder to keep my mouth shut when it's about kids. In the age of Google there isn't much excuse for being ignorant. Even by CW, dairy is a huge culprit in sinus/ear problems. It's all over Google.

                            • My dad is officially jealous. At the 200 lb mark (yay), he compliments me about my weight loss, but doesn't seem to get that red meat is ok.

                              CW is so boringly stupid.
