Sometimes I just get really pessimistic about the SAD and CW and I don't want to laugh at these people because 1. I was like them once and 2. laughing at ignorance is one of the worst things you can do.
I found this out the hard way. I get comments like this on my wall because it's true.

you are under the impression that every one is unhappy with themselves and they all want to lose weight
Well I actually believe this haha. I rarely see anyone who doesn't wanna shed a few extra pounds of body fat. It just gets in the way.

The only people who don't wanna lose weight are the people here... you sick people wanna GAIN it back in muscle. Tsk.

Oh definitely. I wasn't laughing (Which yeah, I guess under the 'Funny CW moments!' can be taken that way eh? Hah), more just sad for her since she's also trying to lose weight but it is slowly rising due to various things (she says). I did try to give her a bit of willpower by saying "Don't do it!" as I also walked by the bag, but on the way out she was definitely choosing something. Ah well.

Only a few months ago I was saying the same thing when the inevitable coworker birthdays (+ cake) roll around. I had lost a bunch of weight before I started Primal, so I get the usual "But you deserve it!" comments, which I say thanks to, but still ignore the food. I was one of the people that would indulge in desserts when eating out, and inevitably encourage whoever I was with to have some too. Now I'm the one putting her foot down!

      • I was one of the first people in the pantry when the announcement went out about food. My cubemate and I would be sure to let the other know if there was food about that hadn't necessarily been announced. Not too long after I started PB, I didn't even want the free pizza they were giving us for all the overtime of busy season. I still have candy on my desk they gave us in a meeting about a month ago. I just don't want it anymore.

FYI- I discovered that 1/4 or 1/2 C of heavy cream (I use big mugs) plus cocoa (sweetened or not) and boiling water works great. It's easier than heating milk on the stove. If the cocoa isn't sweetened, a dash of vanilla is good too.

        • Just got the dropped-jaw look from several people as I grabbed FOUR pieces of pizza brought in by the Home Care rep today. Considering they're about 1.5 inches wide at the crust end, that's not a lot, really --- especially when you're getting rid of the crust and only eating the tops.

The rep kinda glared/gaped at me as I stood right there and denuded his offering (after I'd thanked him very much for lunch!)...too frickin' bad, dude!

          • saw this on FitPerez:

When baking, use mini chocolate chips that are 70% cacao instead of using big milk-chocolate chunks. You’ll save calories and gain antioxidants!

            • So my office now gets daily food trucks. Of note is that on Mondays there's a Bacon food truck, which will now be where I eat lunch every Monday (pork belly sandwich + fried egg - buns = awesome).

As such, that led to a couple CW moments.

              1) One coworker basically said she wasn't going because bacon has 70% fat. I just remarked that the fat won't make you fat and the eyes glazed over. I continued that sugar is what makes you fat and she did agree there.

              2) Another coworker who had the pork belly was remarking to another coworker about having to do exercise to make up for it.

              • This is more of a sad moment, but I used to be a beverage server at a casino. There was one regular in his late 40's who would always order a 12 oz coffee with 10 packets of sugar. After a few years of serving him this very often, he began asking for 4 packs of sweetener rather than the sugar. Who wants to bet he gave himself diabetes?

                • I have a friend who's a carbivore and she thinks what I'm doing is stupid. I never spout any nutrition-related studies to her anymore, but if another person who's nearby when we're both together asks for information, she rolls her eyes and always challenges me. How do I make any come-backs? Should I just ignore her?

Not much you can do, m'dear. Some people (like my own mother) just aren't willing to give up the carbs. In order to make themselves feel better about what they KNOW are bad choices, they will bad-mouth anyone they see trying to better themselves -- in any way! I'm old enough that I've had this same thing happen with educational pursuits, volunteerism, pet ownership, even my choice of television programs ("Oh, did you see "Real Skanks" last night?" "No, I was watching Discovery Health and Fitness"). Even now, when I'm trying to tell someone who's interested how I've lost over 50 pounds and have never-before-seen energy, I have Butt-in-ski's saying I've got it all wrong.

Anything you say will be challenged...take it as a compliment that you're thinking correctly... and just keep that smug, superior feeling inside that you are doing the best thing you can for YOU! I'm not usually so crude, but she can just go ____ herself.

When she's done just smile and say: "opinions vary" and then wink at the person you are talking to. Then let them bring it up if they want.

                      • I <3 this thread. I've been catching up over the past 2 weeks.

I have a kind of CW moment - my work is having a health and wellbeing event next Thursday and Friday involving sessions which cover Healthy Eating, Think Well, Changing Habits and Physical Activity on the Thursday. I'm willing to bet that none of those will be PB friendly, just more CW indoctrination. The events on the Friday sound more Grok friendly - a nature walk and table tennis. There's also a couple of free fruit events - now if they were promising full fat greek yoghurt or double cream to add to the fruit I'll be there in a flash but I bet there won't be .

                          • This is more of a sad moment. The elevator is broke at work today. The building is only 4 floors. My company has an office on the 1st, 2nd, and 4th floors. One of my co-workers came in on 1, made it up the steps to 2, and has been there for the past 2 hours sitting at someone else's desk. She can't make it to the 4th floor where her cube is. Another co-worker just announced that she waited as long as possible to go out for her cigarette break so she didn't have to walk that much. She was huffing and puffing with the first trip up this morning and using her inhaler. I took a call for our copy paper delivery, ran down the steps to meet the guy, directed him to unload the paper at the second floor office, and he was thrilled to not have to load the cases back in the truck. I was tempted to start carrying the boxes up the steps, but I'm dressed up and in heels today. Would have freaked some people out and gotten my lift heavy things in for the day. Oh well.

The guy who does this to me is whipcord thin- so that wouldn't work. Anytime I tell anyone about how I started looking so good, and he's around, he tops my speech with, "Well, it obviously works for YOU but it's not good for everyone." And then he and the other person will discuss other "diets" he really knows nothing about because he's always been skinny (I call it "gaunt") and hasn't yet had any chronic health issues or had any reason to change his eating habits. Annoys the crap outta me. Now I just don't talk about it if he's around, which is hard because he's around a lot.

Just say, Sure, go eat more healthy whole grains and see what it does to you ^_^. Follow the RDA guidelines and let me know how you feel afterwards. I'll just sit here and lose weight/feel great with this bacon I'm eating.

I personally call it a LIVEit. CW "diet" means a weight loss regimen. I call LIVEits are a general health regimen that doesn't necesarily mean weight loss.
