Before and after pics

  • Well, I made up the goal, lol. I just wanted something that wouldn't disappoint me if I never got any lower. I still have a *lot* of body fat to go (ahem, thighs still bigger than my teenager's waist & waist still bigger than my husband's!), but if I never made any more progress, yes, I'd be happy! I've posted a lot of pics here along the way, but have been holding off on that big "50 lb" party. Don't worry; no body image crap here.

    Hitting that goal would be a huge celebration b/c it would mean that the physical problems that are keeping my body from releasing any more excess fat would be done!

    • Trekfan, that's super awesome!

      What's your height? if you don't mind me asking... my husband is around the same weight (though a bit taller, I think) and he is thinking that losing is impossible. Maybe seeing your pics would help.

      And, if you really get tired of being mistaken for a highschooler....grow some neatly trimmed facial hair. I think it would look good on you. But I'm partial to men with facial hair so... :shrug:

        Here's me with the family for our church picture in late April 2011 ... I'm the one in the very back in the plaid ugly shirt. At this time I was 273 ... I was heavier I think between April and July of 2011, but I never stepped on a scale to know, so this is the highest recorded weight I was. I crammed myself into that blue polo shirt and threw on that plaid shirt, 2XL (that barely fit) to hide the fact I was way too big for that polo shirt. I was a freakin white whale. Captain Ahab thankfully didn't find me, lol.



        This was taken in August 2012. I'm pretty much the same now. I stopped losing weight at the end of June 2012 (below 140 just didn't look good or feel right to me) and began focusing on strength training via body weight exercises. A little over a year after starting Primal and I look a lot different and am frequently mistaken for a high school student (like, a 10th grader ... seriously). I've gone from size 40 jeans to size 28/29 (depending on jean maker). I'm in size small shirts from 2XL. Primal has been the best decision of my life and the people in this thread, and all over the forums, have been massively supportive/helpful in my pursuits.

        If anyone has any questions or anything like that, feel free to ask me in anyway you can. Pay it forward, as they say.

          SarahW, my height is 67.5 inches so that's about 5'7, 5'8. As for growing facial hair, I pretty much suck at it. Just isn't in my genetics I guess, lol

          Current Stats: Weight 140 lbs, Body Fat 15.2% (21.1 lbs), BMI 21.2

          Current Goals: Get a stronger core through Pilates and continue being as Primal as I can be.

          • It might be perfectly normal for you, but you might consider having your testosterone levels checked. It's one of those things that a lot of people have problems with today, but don't know it, and don't realize how much better, in various ways, they can feel when it's in the ideal range.

            I'm a chick and I know mine is too low, and am working on it!

              • I've been a member now for almost a year and haven't posted any pics cause I have before pics but there will never be an after pic just progress lol !! I have to thank my brotha Todd ( touchdowntodd ) for pointing me in the right direction ! First off I'm 33 and have been overweight since birth !!! Lol I also had an injury in wich sidelined me for a long time ! I suffer from degenerative disc disease (9 herniated and bulging discs) I went through many painfull injections physical therapies and even the dreadfull pain management where I lost interest in life ! I couldn't even walk through Walmart for 20 minutes . Fast forward to today I quit smoking got off all pain medications and got a treadmill over a year ago . Now I do 3-4 miles a day on my treadmill can breath clear take nothing for pain and am slowly and properly loosing the weight!

                a lil over a year ago around 260ish lol

                And this week 230ish
                The number means nothing to me although I'd like to think 189 is possible I haven't been under 200lbs since I was like 10 months old . As long as my clothes get big on me and I continue to feel better everyday that's what's important . Also all this whole awesome food makes it that much easier !! Grok on !!!

                  Thanks MamaGrok Yeah, I lost that weight pretty fast through a combination of psychopathic determination (which, full disclosure, helped land me in the hospital for four days) and Primal being awesome. Losing weight and doing it without eating salads for the rest of my life was a freakin miracle to me. In retrospect, I should have eased up a little and let my body catch up, but I was damned pig headed ... still, the results I would not trade for the world.

                  Yeah, the testosterone thing ... it may be my levels are skewed in the wrong direction. I know that back in late June I had serious concerns that my testosterone was so low I wasn't able to add muscle mass, but since then I have added some lean mass. I now have definable muscles in my arms/upper chest area, can do 13 pullups in a row without too much trouble, and I shave once every three days as opposed to once every three weeks (as it was for, like, years prior to Primal).

                  I think my levels are on the uptick, but it's just a feeling. Still, testing is a possibility but my insurance doesn't cover it so I'd have to pay for it myself and money's limited at the moment. If further issues crop up, I'll consider the testing more.

                  • my husband is just about 5 ft 7, 160 (muscle), and has very little facial hair. It definitely can be genetic, or nothing to worry about. But, it oculd also be somethign to worry about.

                        • Wow! The all-over difference is obvious, but the change in your legs is absolutely fantastic! I love how losing weight eating real food leaves you looking like you never had it in the first place, instead of looking deflated like so many folks I know who lost it with low-fat, WW, sheer CICO, etc.

I still have a little loose skin on my thighs and am doing skin brushing to help tighten it. I also credit doing an exercise program called T-Tapp. It has really help shrink me more than what seems possible even from the weight loss. I think my legs are smaller now than the last time I was in the 140s. Teresa Tapp has one exercise in particular called Awesome Legs which she says if you do it for 10 days in a row it typically takes a half inch off your upper thighs. It works!

                              I bought my book, and still havent got around to doing the exercises yet. I read the part that said, read the whole book first, and since I havent done that yet, well... ha

                              But I know there are videos on youtube and the website, which I am sure is better than the book anyhow, to actually see it being done. I just have the world's slowest fast internet so I dont usually watch any videos. But it is on my to do list. I can do 15 mintues a day I do try to brush before a bath though.
