  • To quote Raphaella, she cringes when she looks at the before pics. Does anyone here think that is a healthy body view considering her appearance and build? That mindset is not healthy. And, yes, EVERYONE has the right to want to improve and be proud of their successes, but I think there is a fine line with rah-rah-rah'ing people who may not view themselves accurately.

I am sorry if I hurt your feelings Raphaella. Nobody needs The World According to Say_Rahhh. =)

I must disagree. I'd think that a mindset in which I was ultra accepting of my physical signs of poor health would be far more unhealthy.

My feelings weren't hurt, I just think it's bizarre that I'm being told I have body dysmorphia because I was unhappy with being overweight and with how I looked overweight.

        • well, perhaps i didn't read the 'tongue in cheek' aspect of it. but, using a term like "soft core porn" without that component *is* chastising others for their choice of their photos, and *is* a form social policing. so, it's rather ironic that you feel "chastised" for being called out for chastising. LOL

i have no preference for clothed or not, personally. and, what people choose to post is their business. I see very little difference between an underwear shot and a bathing suit shot, and even if there are "nuts" out there, a lot of people will post pictures of themselves in their bathing suits and no one thinks anything of it. no one thinks that some nut is going to attack the person or what have you. And to be honest, the biggest NUTS that i've run across on the internet have been women who find your address and mail you nasty, bitchy letters about what a terrible mother one is. a bit scary, but once you threaten legal action, they go away.

now, in so far as raphaella's shots, she's obviously a lovely-shaped girl. She is obviously heavier in her before pics than her after pics, and she has gotten the results she wants. Jsut because she was lovely before and she is lovely now does not mean she has no right to post, or to be lauded in her results. If her after shot was her before, and then she became as thin as grumpy caveman's compatriot in his photo (the little skeleton) then we can chastise her for having issues.

until then, i think she has just as much right to post the pictures she wants and be praised for her results as anyone else. why not? i started at roughtly 135 lbs and i'm now roughly 125 lbs. i went from roughly 20-22% body fat to 18. Body dismorphia? no. was i unhappy with my body -- not really, but i knew i could "tighten up." and i did -- via diet and little else. it shocked me, but there you go. i haven't posted pictures because i don't have any.

FTR, I agree, although there is some - you won't get arrested for walking into a Florida beach cafe in your bathing suit.

Keep those progress pics comin'! I LOVE 'em!

To do my fair share, I'll post some from a little while back. These are both "during" shots. I started at 185, first pic is at 170, second is at 150 IIRC, and I'm at 145 and still going.

Last year's swimsuit coverup vs. this year's:

It reminds me of how CRAPPY I felt during the expanding years. I never wanted to bother trying to look decent, felt like it was pointless so long as I was fat and I felt crappy anyway and didn't feel up to trying.

Good catch - I don't think I bothered to buy anything colorful in the "fat dark days" - felt like everything drew attention to my size.

MountainDew - Bwahahahahahaha! This is as close as the internet is getting to ever catching a bathing suit shot from this chica. It would ruin my Senate bid.

                      • I dunno, MG. Maybe I'm just horrible at guessing weight but you didn't look like 170 in that first pic. When I read that # I wondered if you were like 6 ft tall. And you don't have to worry about risque pics. Unless you're a State Senator trolling craigslist for black transexuals...

                              • OK, I admit it, I feel inadequate! Some of these ladies look SO good - I am wondering why i am even bothering.

(before anyone yells, I know "be the best you can be" and all that, yeah, yeah)

But I am no "pin up" - I am never going to be happy with what i see in the mirror, let alone want to show people. For those more genetically gifted people who can aim for perfection - good for you! My avatar says it all - "no pictures please"

On the other hand, seeing the Cinderella (male and female) transformations is fun! I guess the lack of clothes does show whether people have also achieved toned, flat tums, good muscles and no cellulite - covered up is easier to "flatter/disguise"??

Maybe I will start that other thread someone suggested for those of us with more of a problem - I could call it the "quite good considering" thread? (JOKING)
