Interesting comment suggesting that perhaps young people being born today do not suffer from wheat reactions, but it does reveal itself as we age - "The striking conclusion from this argument is that older people, even those coming from populations that have practiced agriculture for millennia, may suffer adverse health effects from the agricultural diet, despite having no problems when they were younger."

      • One of the great things about embracing the Paleo lifestyle has been the fact that I do not need to take any medications. So many of the commonly used medications by those over 40 are setting the stage for Alzheimer disease. This article lists the medications you should avoid and interestingly speaks to the importance of embracing a paleo style diet to reduce insulin spikes which are suspected of contributing to the development of Alzheimer.

        • Thanks for this link. My Walgreens knock off of Benadryl has diphenhydramine as the active ingredient, on the list. Rats. Fortunately this fall's allergy season, I think I only used a few of them, much reduced over the last few years since going Primal.
The Buck stops here. I am responsible for my past and my future. So for today: I choose to be happy. I will seek wisdom. I will be a servant to others. I will greet this day with a forgiving spirit.

Your comment made me run and read my Benadryl container. Well, actually I cannot read it I will need to google for the info.

I had not thought about over the counter drugs when reading....I shall go back and read again.

            Thanks to Canuck and RigD.

Went to their site - where I could read right on the label diphenhydramine as an ingredient. Curiously, no other ingredient list online.

            • Not sure if any of you are into Bone Broth. Personally I don't feel like taking the time to make it so I order it online. This company is excellent - provides bone broth from grass fed, pastured, no GMO beef. Its great for joints and helps those with arthritis, heals and seals leaky gut and supposedly makes you look younger!

              • Of course the Paleo community already knows the importance of healthy fats, but this is another example of how Paleo ideas are being adopted by the mainstream....

                • That article says vegetable oils are okay though.

                  What do you think?

Good catch, definite no on the vegetable oils IMO. I typically use coconut oil, olive oil and just recently purchased Mark's Primal Avocado oil which I really like. I also highly recommend his mayo and salad dressings.

                    • I just picked up some Cocotella at a Whole Foods display this morning - OMG this is the absolute best Paleo treat. A silky-smooth stone ground mixture of organic Sri Lankan coconut, organic Ecuadorian heritage variety cacao nibs, and Indonesian fair trade coconut sugar creates a decadent yet wholesome experience Yum!

Nearly got back on the wagon January 3rd. HIIT rowing machine four mornings a week (30 seconds x 3) and Body by Science strength training once a week taking about 10 minutes. I walk to the gym, do the workout, walk into town and get shopping that I carry home in a rucksack, total distance about two miles. Lost 7lbs so far. Goal is another 30lbs by mid July when I've got an Army reunion, although I hope it will be by early June when I am doing my Duke of Edinburgh Award Diamond Challenge that I mentioned before. Treats are 25gms 70% cocoa solid chocolate every evening after dinner and wine with dinners on Saturday and Sunday totalling 750 mls (one bottle) over the two days. I have just taken on an allotment so when the wether is a bit better I will be sorting out some "no dig" deep beds for veg and soft fruit then weeding etc to keep it under control. I am looking forward to the produce, and, I'll be trying to grow sweet potatoes in a polytunnel.

On the fitness front, I started the gym regime in November and resting pulse has gone from about 60 to roughly 50 beats per minute.
Why use a sledge hammer to crack a nut when a steam roller is even more effective, and, is fun to drive.

What the heck is the thing they swing about 2/3 of the way through. It looks like a very long sledgehammer with a large round nob on the end?
