  • My day in the ER

    Well, that was fun...

I just spent 4 hours in the ER for difficulty breathing and chest pains.

Yeah, my first thought was "Oh shit, genetics has caught up to me". So, 2 EKGs, 1 chest x-ray, 1/2 pint of blood, and $10,000 later. There's nothing wrong.

All of my blood work is fine. My EKG is perfect. Chest x-ray is clear. Go figure.

Near as I can figure is that I pulled a chest muscle from some food poisioning I had yesterday and worked myself into an anxiety attack.

So, why is this a success story you ask? My mother had CHF (congestive heart failure), my father had a triple by-pass 10 years ago, my maternal g-mother died of heart disease, etc. Also, all of my imediate family have (had) T2 diabetes, including my younger brother. And despite my "dangerous" levels of fat and red meat ingestion, I am (at 44) perfect in all ways that they can think of to check for heart disease.

I'll of course follow up with my primary Dr., this is nothing to fuck around with. But, I'm calling it a win! (scared the hell out of my though!)

Good to hear that blood work is fine and EKG is perfect.

Anxiety attacks can be terrifying. They feel so...so...serious! I had one and dialed 911. So embarrassing to have 6 adorable paramedics in my living room in the middle of the night telling me, "You're fine. You had a panic attack."

Oh man, I'm reading the forums and eating dinner, and I just about shot tuna out of my nose after reading this.

Congrats Chasintrail! I can't imagine how scary that trip to the ER must have been.

The $10K bill would have put me back into a anxiety attack. Holy crap that's a lot of money to have someone guessing and coming up with nothing.

OK, I may (probably) am exagerating on the bill. Only time will tell.

I went through almost exactly the same senario many years ago. Panic attacks were fortunately cheaper back then.

My last trip to the ER was 16k for some iv meds and a CT scan. So your ten grand may be a little low

Awesome news on the healthy heart though! Way to crush your genetic predisposition

My last ER visit for what turned out to be a wrenched stomach muscle(thought I'd opened up a recent hernia surgery site ) turned out to be around $114,700.

Insurance wanted to sue my son because it was playing with him that caused the "accident" which was how it was put down on paper.

Called them and explained the situation and said, "I'm not sure you'll get much out of an 8yr old."

Glad you're good and that it wasn't showing anything more serious!!
