So my kids have heard the whole Primal spiel from me in the last six to eight weeks. And in the last few weeks, both girls have started cutting out the carbs.
Last night was awesome. We went out to eat, as we usually do on the Saturday of the weekend they spend with us, to Islands. Islands is a surfer-themed burger place, so the menu is largely burgers and salads and appetizers. You can't get a steak there, although they do have a protein platter. Their burgers are made fresh from 100% beef - no fillers.
Anyway, my husband and I normally have a Big-Ass Salad and split a plate of ten buffalo wings between us. The kids normally get burgers and fries. Well, last night, Kid Unit #1 ordered her burger with a lettuce wrap instead of the bun, and asked for cheese fries. She can't quite give up her fries yet, but hey, she's cutting down on the carbs! And she said to me "Cheese is protein and fat, so it'll help me not get as sleepy or carbatose as I would get if I just had the fries." Kid Unit #2 ordered her burger with a lettuce wrap as well, and asked for onion rings instead of french fries.
And on Friday evening we got burgers from Carl's Jr., and EVERYONE wanted lettuce wraps instead of buns.
My daughters also tell me that when they're with my ex, they do their best to eat as few carby processed foods as possible.
The word is getting out to them. Hopefully neither of them will ever have to face diabetes like I have to. *crosses fingers*
