  • bed time snack

yeah, i know i shouldn't be hungry at night time. but i have been waking up at 4:30am lately with a hungry belly! aside from working more fat into my diet, and coming up with a better food-schedule, i would like to shift a quick after dinner snack in at times if i've eaten light during the day. any ideas for evening snacks to keep me from waking up in the night? i'm thinking protein, but don't want to be eating anything too difficult to digest at night.
i'm working on getting my diet under control so that i'm not hungry by night time, but i'd had some health issues lately that stood in my way!

Try the protein options mentioned first, but I personally wonder if some carbs might be in order. If the other suggestions don't work, try a teaspoon of honey before you go to bed.

In case it helps, I used to get a similar thing, but cured it by removing just about all carbs from my evening meal and ensuring I got a good fat load. As I understand it, I was getting a stress hormone response at 4am to mobilise glycogen from the liver as blood sugar levels fell. Now I just burn fat all night long

Pre-primal, I would eat peanut butter before going to bed if I needed to squeeze in some extra fat/protein to make it through the night. So I'd suggest trying a few spoons of almond butter. It's easy to eat in that it doesn't take up a lot of room and it's delicious!

i have a snack after dinner every night... it varies

              - bowl of sour cream(i know this is weird but its mostly fat lol and i like it)
              - bowl of strained goat yogurt(gets the good bugs in the GI)
              - leftover roast( i like cold congealed white fat, again, prolly weird)
              - rutabaga sliced and dipped in salsa/sour cream

I would eat a tbsp or 2 of coconut oil. Yummy by itself and will keep you satieted.

I agree with Mmmmfat, although we don't consume legumes, peanuts, etc. I find that 1 tablespoon of Raw Almond Butter, eaten slowly does the trick. Sweet dreams. :-)
