  • First time cooking salmon

    I've known for a while that I should include more fish in my diet. Starting today.

    I'm not convinced we're going to love it, however I picked up a piece of salmon which I plan to have for lunch. My thought was just to panfry in butter, maybe with some salt and pepper. Still deciding what to have with it, possibly salad.

    Do you have a favourite herb to use on salmon, or a favourite way to serve it?

    Generally I poach or bake it and serve it with a little melted butter and lemon juice.

      marinate it with lemon juice and spices THEN fry it!

        Fried in butter and then served with lemon juice, salt and parsely is awesome.

        Baked in the oven is a good way of doing a whole fish (which is about half the price of steaks).
        Disclaimer: I eat 'meat and vegetables' ala Primal, although I don't agree with the carb curve. I like Perfect Health Diet and WAPF Lactofermentation a lot.

          Thankyou people, don't know why I didn't think of lemon juice. Joanie, that other thread also has many cool ideas, thanx.

          What I did was lightly salt it, then panfry in butter. Served on a bed of butter fried garlic zucchini (using my surplus), and added a drizzle of coconut cream and sprinkle of parsley.

          It had a tough skin which i pulled off after cooking, was that the right thing to do?

          Magicmerl, where do you think our salmon comes from? I mean, when I see fresh tarakihi in the store I assume one of my neighbours went out on a boat and caught it. But salmon?? I dunno.

            I like it under the broiler with butter and then get that skin really crisp, you'll love it. I serve with lemon juice, salt and pepper.

            Pan fired some the other night it was also delicious. Make sure you buy wild not farmed.

              Salmon is one of the easiest, most hassle free things to make. Thin coating of oil or butter, salt, dill, rosemary, thyme, 500 degrees for 12-15 min on the top rack. Line the pan with parchment paper and you don't even have to clean up.

              Or marinate in coconut aminos. Mmm.
              OR mix a little honey with chili powder and spread it over the top before baking!
              Is it weird in here, or is it just me?

                        I always do mine with dill, lemon, just a little bit of salt & pepper - delicious!
                        I am not a bodybuilding/fat loss/strength training "guru" BUT I achieved a lean state with ease after learning the correct way to train and eat and I want to HELP YOU achieve the same.

                          salmon casserole is good too,don't chop it up though just use fairly large steaks.

                            Not trying to hijack the thread, but, how would you prepare canned salmon? I bought a can, and then saw it could contain bones and skin. Now I'm afraid to open the can.
