  • Where to have a good ham/bacon shipped from?

    Hi all,

I am traveling to family in Humboldt County for Thanksgiving and want to purchase and ship some pork ahead of time (otherwise, it will be the $1.99/lb special cuts from local Safeway! My mom likes to plan ahead). Looking for completely gluten free, and all the other bells and whistles (antiobiotic free, free roaming, etc)

I'm hoping to find a place that will have a traditional spiral cut ham, and Pork Roast (butt roast) and some bacon. If they are flash frozen, it probably doesn't matter where it ships from.

Betting that some of you have looked long and hard for some of these items, so you might have a quick link for me...

Thanks for any help!! (some of these farm websites are a little misleading in their attempt to seem "natural")

Local butcher. That's always the best option.

Agree with Diana. Local butcher or farmer.
If you're not as concerned about sourcing, I must say my mom & her family have never been disappointed with the Honeybaked Ham Co. Not sure about their ingredient list, but it's a solid product. When I was a kid, Ma & her siblings would send hams to eachother for the holidays.

You can also check out U.S. Wellness meats-es website and see if they have anything fun for the holidays.

Yeah, but after 12 hours on planes to get to them, it will be tough to research and wrap my head around. My mom likes to have everything planned out and bought days/weeks in advance. This is the one time I'd be willing to go with a farm from somewhere that will ship all three items. But I want to make sure that it's a quality product, no hormone, free roaming and all that good stuff.

So research farmers in your mom's area and bribe a relative to pick it up

Humboldt County, CA? If so, they have the North Coast Co-op in Eureka and Arcata.
