  • Kombucha SCOBY...tea specific?

I'm about to take on brewing some Kombucha and was wondering if the SCOBY should be "tea-specific."

IOW, if a SCOBY was "born" on black tea, should it (and babies) be used only to ferment black teas?

i don't think this matters. i've switched from black, green, infused, etc. and all back again using the offspring from the first scoby i grew. it never seemed to make any difference.

I won't matter. You do need to make sure the tea you're brewing is at least 25% black tea. And nothing with herbal oils in it, or your SCOBY will die.
My last two batches molded, I think because I used Bragg's ACV instead of my usual white vinegar. Has anyone else had this issue?

Don't know where in Texas you live, but today's groupon for the Dallas area is learning to make Kefir and Kombucha. A little off topic..
