  • Best. Smoothie. Ever.

Ok that's just my opinion but I love this thing, it's like eating ice cream. BTW this is not for carb minimizing or low cal, so don't get all excited thinking you'll eat this everyday and loose weight!

Oh keep in mind I don't really measure stuff so this is "best guess" for calorie counts and what not. I always eyeball everything in the kitchen.

What a crazy smoothie! Sounds delicious. How many ounces does it come out to after being blended? Throw in some spinach and kale and it would make a nice meal replacement.

It's delicious? And it adds healthy fat and and awesome coconut taste. Same with the cacao nibs, healthy fat anti-oxidants and a great little chocolaty crunch.

Hah yeah well I usually put coconut oil in and uhm, I know I can try for myself but would coconut milk instead of milk taste good? I already tried your original recipe and it was delicious but I don't like the idea of drinking straight milk.
Anyway, I'm gonna make a whole lot of this stuff for when I'm out of healthy calorie sources

                    We do something similar:

                    1 cup kefir
1 cup frozen berries (rasp/black/blue that we picked last summer)
                    1/2 banana
                    1 tb coconut oil
                    1 scoop whey protein

It blends up to a big pint glass.

                    Yum!
The added coconut oil helps me not get a carb buzz and stay full longer. Same with the extra protein. If I leave those out I feel more like I just ate dessert instead of a meal.

When I add coconut oil to a smoothie, it gets hard and floats to the top in itty bitty pieces from getting so cold. Does yours do that?

It seems to blend in pretty well. But by the time the glass is empty I can see oil spots clinging to the sides. The smoothies are usually pretty thick so nothing really floats.

Big smoothie maker here as well. House favorite is to make it thick and eat it with a spoon (Vitamix owner here). Kefir sounds good - I like goat milk yogurt. I have a couple of questions about one of your ingredients - whey protein powder.

I have not really been a fan of powders, in general, mostly because I like to base as much as I can on whole foods (but I'm not kamikaze about it - I used no-soy vegetarian protein powder a bit during my stint as a vegetarian).

Is it in there just to up the protein:fruit sugar ratio?

If you didn't have any in the cupboard, what would you use instead?
