  • Celtic Sea Salt Conversion- confused!

    Hi There-

    So I found Celtic sea salt but a lot of recipes in a primal cookbook I use just calls for "salt." I find sea salt to be SALTIER tasting so I'm thinking I don't need to use as much. Does anyone know how much sea salt to use when it calls for regular salt?

      I agree that sea salt tastes saltier. So experiment with the quantities in recipes. Try 1/2 the amount, and adjust from there. It shouldn't take long to find the right conversion ratio.

        How much salt are you having to use? I would have thought the amounts of salt in a meal are so small that you probably wouldn't notice it so much. It's only really when you sprinkle it on food that the taste stands out a bit more. But as already suggested by the previous posts, I suspect it's just personal taste. Even with table salt people differ in their preference and I've seen many recipes that just say 'salt to taste'.

        Some say it is actually better to add the salt AFTER the meal is done so you can adjust according to the taste of the finished meal. If you use iodised salt some of the iodine is lost in cooking so that would be another good reason to salt after.

          Yup, experiment a little. I've found that I need considerably less sea salt, but I can't really say how much. Depending on the recipe, it's all been trial and error.

              Yes I agree it's saltier and it's really easy to go too far.

                  Wow, I feel Celtic sea salt and table salt using the same amount is not equal. I'm still trying to figure out the right ratio. Table salt is so much more saltier to me. I do not like a salty taste to my foods.
