  • Brussels sprouts!

Anyone else love them? I only realised today how much I love them. I'd roasted about a dozen for tossing cold through salads, for FUTURE use, but when I took them out of the oven I couldn't resist them and ended up eating them all.
    Woops.
    I must have a problem

I just threw up a little bit in my mouth.

I love Brussels, especially roasted! I am guilty of eating a whole batch by my lonely, too. Luckily, hubby hates them.

One of my favorites! Steam with pastured lard and I'm set.

Brassicas seem to be a thing you either love or hate. I'm on the hater side. It probably has something to do with how sensitive your taste buds are to bitterness. I can eat Brussels sprouts, but certainly don't enjoy them. Nor broccoli nor cauliflower. And kale ..... ech! My partner is even worse.

I would encourage you to look for baby brussels sprouts - they are typically not as bitter.

I love brussels sprouts just about any way. My current favorite right now is to sauteed with bacon and chinese five spice...

Roasted is the way to go! With a little bacon/bacon grease/butter and leeks, maybe a little onion powder... damn, it's SO good!

I don't have an oven, though, so I usually steam them, then fry them with a little butter and smoked paprika. I'm a broke uni student, so bacon is a luxury :P

We fight over them in our house! I get really funny looks when out shopping, as my 11 year old will beg me to buy some (as well as spinach), and we're all devastated when they're out of season! We like them boiled, steamed, stir-fried, roast - in fact, any way you can think of.

Roasting them until they get kind of brown removes a lot of the bitterness and brings out the natural sugars and sort of caramelizes them. It's a very different experience than how I'd ever had them before.

I agree roasting is the way to go. Brussel sprouts, parsnips, onion, carrots or sweet potatoes - toss with olive oil and whatever herbs you like and then roast to golden yummy perfection. Add a little crumbled bacon, and go nuts!

That salad looks good too - gotta try it.

I'm in the love 'em camp! I roast a big pan of Brussels sprouts cut in half along with a chopped up onion and a head of cauliflower. Roast in some bacon grease at 400f, and they are awesome. Not bitter, in fact, a bit sweet. I do 3 lbs of them with the onion and cauli, and they last the week.

I love them, but my family hates me a few hours after I've eaten them...
