  • Searching for great soup/stew recipes

So because im trying to up my vegetable intake and because my budget wont allow me to buy grassfed ribeye im looking for all kinds of recipes that use slow cooking. Especially those without tomatoes because i eat those way too much anyway

Put chopped onion, carrot, celery, parsnips in crock-pot. Put hunk of meat on top (season with salt and pepper if you remember to). If it's beef, cover or nearly cover with broth/water. Cook on low until a fork goes in easily.

For some reason, if I cook a pork roast (shoulder or butt), it seems to do fine without water/broth, but we like beef better if it's cooked in liquid. My crock-pot runs pretty hot, so maybe it ameliorates the heat some.

Not an interesting recipe, but tasty and easy.

This recipe calls for a little tomato paste but no tomatoes. I make it without the caraway seeds. I'm thinking of modifying it in the future to add carrots and/or parsnips.

Instead of thickening stews and soups with flour, I've been using arrowroot powder.
