  • HELP!! Packaged Beef Stroganoff!

My non-primal wife is making slow cooker beef stroganoff tomorrow and bought McCormicks seasoning. First ingredient - corn starch. It also has corn and wheat gluten!! Anyone know a homemade recipe for stroganoff seasoning or at least a gluten free pre-packaged version? I want something ready when I bring it up to her later.

You want to simulate artificial food by molding real food into a similar shape? This kind of bass-ackward thinking is troublesome. Cook some salmon and broccoli and moan with pleasure as you eat it next to her.

Ha ha. I suggest you google yourself an actual recipe and actually make it. The brownie points from your wife will be worth it!

I'm not going to suggest one because, as I don't much like to use American recipes, I'm guessing you won't want an Australian one... funny ingredients, measurements and temperatures...

I do beef Stroganoff all the time, its sort of international, isn't it?
I use a lot of sweet paprika, hot paprika, onion and some sour cream/greek yogurt.

Use a cream reduction - no thickener required. If you like tagliatelle, make some courgette ribbons - it's a better dish than the original.

Prepackaged foods and "paleo" are really hard to meld together...it's getting easier to find gluten-free pre-made foods, but you'll still find things like corn starch. Though, honestly, a little corn starch doesn't bother me...it's pretty much just starch. But, long story short, you may have to either compromise and eat what your wife cooks, ask her not to use pre-packaged seasonings/mixes in her cooking (the beauty of home cooking is you control what goes in!) or cook it yourself (which is what I'd tell my husband if he wanted to bitch about what I was making).

Just google "gluten free beef stroganoff" and replace cornstarch with arrowroot. Or, go to the store and peruse the cooking aisles looking for "gluten free" versions of what you want to replace (but, again, you'll still probably have things in there you don't want/aren't "paleo"). Alternate option: google "paleo beef stroganoff"
