  • Testing strips for sugar/alcohol/etc in fermented foods?

    Hey all.

I've been starting to experiment with making yogurt and cheese and I want to make some ginger ale, kombucha and other fermented foods. My question is if anyone knows if there is any really easy way to test those sorts of foods for sugar content or alcohol content. I was thinking maybe a test strip like the keto-sticks or pH paper or something like that but for sugar/alcohol.

a refractometer will measure the sugar in water-based liquids, but will run you around $50. I generally just use my tastebuds.
