  • Egg/dairy free quick breakfasts?

    Mrs. Freqz is almost set to join me eating primal. She does not tolerate eggs or dairy, though, and is adamant that she wants more than bacon or sausage for breakfast and wants breakfast foods for breakfast, dammit. She just won't give up the toast. She's not the type to skip breakfast so we also need some quickish stuff for her hectic mornings getting the kiddos off to school.

    I've suggested fresh berries with coconut milk and paleo pancakes. These probably take too long for weekdays, though.

    She doesn't have a ton of weight to lose (perhaps just replace 5-10 lbs of fat with a little muscle), so no need to super mindful of carbs.

    Ideas?

    Is her usual breakfast toast and an orange or something?

    If she wants a toast, she might have to get into a habit of baking flax meal bread (see flax focaccia recipe on the net). I used to bake a pan, then slice and freeze it and toast.
    You can take a look at those tapioca/manioc starch breads as well.
    Sliced fruit and ham.
    Is she Okay with the idea of fish for breakfast? Smoked salmon with cucumbers then.
    Overnight baked apples in a small crockpot?
    If she is Okay with porriges, she can try sesame seed and almond butter porridge but boy, that would be expensive.
    Mashed cauliflower or squash with almond milk can work as a porridge.
    I was also going to experiment with banana chips as flakes in a breakfast cerial for my kiddo.

    Since white rice is sortta Okay now, maybe rice porridge or pudding with almond milk....

      If she wants a bowl of cereal, I really like toasting coconut chips and having them with cream. SO GOOD! They are high carb, so I've only had them, like, twice in the last month, but it really puts the cereal craving demon back to bed.

      Paleo pancakes take no time. Eggs, nut butter, banana, stir to pancake consistency and cook. Or you could go the protein powder route and make protein waffles. Just some ideas.

        Potato hash browns are breakfast food right? Give me a couple of those with a breakfast sausage, some bacon and some fruit.

          Make a big batch of Primal pancakes ahead of time, then freeze em. You can take em out and re-heat in the micro or toaster(if you still have one;-). They usually last for about 1.5-2 weeks.

            Bingo and they are awesome! I sometimes add raisins in mine but more of the time, I fry some apples on a low heat and put them on the pancakes, then add some agave nectar and cinnamon. You could then also add a bit of almond milk on top to add some moisture.

              No need to have breakfast foods for breakfasts. I now often have leftovers from dinner, or bake up a batch of chicken drumsticks and have them cold for breakfast.

                Potato hash browns! of course!

                I'll make up a trial batch of the banana/almond butter pancakes (or maybe with some pumpkin) this week and let her have a go at them.

                  *I* know that but Mrs. Freqz wants her breakfast type foods for breakfast-- it's more of a transitional thing until she gets rid of some of those preconceived notions like "I'll DIE without bread" etc. She gags when I kill last nights leftover broccoli or asparagus while my eggs are cooking. The kids just think it's funny.

                    You can do sweet potato, zucchini, or daikon hashbrowns too, for variety.
                    This is a little weird perhaps, but bananas/apples dipped in almond butter?

                      how is that weird? Slice the apple into rings, smother in nut butter, top with cinnamon and craisins-- ticks on a toilet seat (similar to ants on a log, but more breakfasty)

                      when she gets transitioned, try toasting some walnuts and chopped apple with butter and cinnamon and serving it in baked acorn squash. Makes an excellent hot breakfast! Oh, and so does baked custard.

                      the other alternative to breakfast options is no breakfast. Once she's fully primal, she will probably find herself easily slipping in and out of IF stages very naturally

                        I know my mom gave me a weird look when she saw me eating that a few days ago...

                        Ticks on a toilet seat! Haha that's hilarious.

                        You could try stuffing sausage/other breakfast meats into squash as well.

                          i would likely do sweet potato and other root veggies for breakfast, and possibly making them into latkes, and go from there. plus bacon or sausage of course!

                            love almond butter on slices of apple. very good. I like a handful of nuts and a little dried fruit, too.

                            Here we can get gluten-free bread from the freezer section; it's not primal by any stretch of the imagination but it's at least getting rid of the gluten, and with something like nut butter and banana slices on top, you're looking at a decent breakfast. Maybe in transition breakfast is a low priority change.

                            But yeah, I can whip up a couple of primal pancakes while you're still pouring milk on your cereal....

                              I just wanted to tell ya, that Mrs. Freqz is a very, very, VERY lucky woman. I can count on the fingers of two hands when my husband cooked in 13 years, let alone searched internet for recipies to suit my preferences! heh, I cook and leave him frozen portioned out meals every time I go away on a bussiness trip, and he keeps telling me not to worry, I'd find him under the bed with the cat eating the cat food. Now that the cat went to live back with my mom, I am actually concerned....
