  • How to use lard

    I have heard how good lard is in the primal lifestyle, but I don't know how and when to use it and what kind to get.

    I see it in the store, but the package says "Lard and Hydrogenized Lard". Is this what I am supposed to be getting? What about the hydrogenized part? Isn't that bad?

    And when do I use it? I have heard of people saying to fry meat in it, but when I fry meat, it makes it's own fat and I do not need to add any. And if I do add some to the pan, do I pour what is left in the pan over the meat?

    What are other uses for lard?

    You can render your own lard, it's insanely easy.

    I use it as a cooking fat, but I eat more fat than most people here.

      I use it mostly for deep frying (homemade fries, and such).

        Thanks! I eat a lot of fat, too. My daily average for this week is 166 grams of fat.

          Hydroginated=bad. If you can find some unadulterated it's used like any other cooking fat.
          Wheat is the new tobacco. Spread the word.

              If you have any Hispanic markets near you they often sell lard that they render themselves. It's called manteca. Generally the ones with a meat section will have it. I regularly see it near me.
              Buy house, Demolish house, Build house.
