  • Invited to a potluck vegetarian dinner party...help!

We're invited to a potluck vegetarian dinner party on Saturday night.
I was thinking of making a large Greek salad plate with feta cheese (for my protein), tomatoes, cukes, red onions, greens, and a Greek dressing.
I don't eat cheese often, and do better with goat's milk or sheep's milk cheese (I'll use sheep's milk feta)
    Thoughts?
Thanks for your response or other suggestions.

    Sounds like a good choice.

Could you add some sliced hard boiled eggs? Or bring deviled eggs as well? Then you'd have a complete meal for sure.

Why? It'll be cold when she gets there.

Indigogirl, you should eat some steak at home first.. Then drive to the potluck with the uber-yummy salad. Heck use the EVOO stuff, salad's what it's actually for!

is it vegetarian or vegan? Cheese & eggs won't fly at a vegan party. Non meat vegetarian, however, would be okay. I'd totally scarf down your salad

As long as it's not vegan (@Bork), the cheese is fine. If these are your friends, clients, etc, don't offend them--no matter how tempting it may be. After all, we primal folk have nothing against veges.

                  Thanks for all the suggestions!
It's not vegan, and it's acquaintances rather than friends, so I think I will go with the Greek salad, and maybe have a bit more protein at home before I go.

well at least it's not vegan. "Vegan party" sounds like an oxymoron to me! Here, let's celebrate by eating bland bloaty fat-less food items. blea.

I'd make something potato based, but that's because I love potatoes. Also, forget that, potato sides go best with meat.

Your salad sounds awesome! that's probably what I would bring to a vegetarian party as well, or a fruit platter, or pizza.
I used to seriously post here, now I prefer to troll.

Eggs, cheese and nuts are fair game for vegetarian...as long as it's not vegan, like it's already been mentioned. Also, consider making something with beans. Beans may not be ideal, but they're still considered doable on an irregular basis. Remember, nuts and dark chocolate are big around here and black beans, pinto beans, kidney beans and the like have FAR less omega 6 and FAR less phytotoxins than nuts or dark chocolate. I use them every now and again. Soak them beforehand and as long as you're okay with a very low GI starch, you should be fine. A good vegetarian bean dip loaded with good cheeses and a nice salad with eggs, nuts and cheese could get you your protein and fat fix.

That sounds good! I might also consider an egg dish, like veggie loaded mini fritattas. Or oooh, potato/egg salad with homemade mayo.
