  • How do you make protein bars?

    Since I can't order those Quest Protein Bars from their (shipping too expensive) I've thought that it's reasonably easy to make one.

    Just get whey protein, mix in a bit of water or milk, add almond meal and a bit of coconut oil or other oil. Mix together and put the batter into a small rectangle pan (depending on the quantity), and put in the fridge. Then when the consistency is hard, just cut he desired sizes in the pan you have on the fridge, and there you go, your own protein bar, high in protein, fat and low carb, none of those sugar alcohol crazes or high sugar content.

    Am I missing something or is it this simple?

    Mark has a recipe for primal protein bars that I've made a few weeks ago:

    They were quite tasty but tended to fall apart if left unrefrigerated.
    You need some kind of binding agent like an egg or two, and Mark uses some raw honey in this recipe though I didn't think it did much to hold the bars together.

        Substitute water/milk for an egg (otherwise you'll still end up with protein soup) and see how it turns out!

          What about jerky? It seems darn easy; only a little time consuming.

            I don't know how much protein they have, but I make bars with 8oz pitted dates (chopped fine), 1/2 cup or so of pecan or almond meal, 1/2 cup coconut, 1 TBSP unsweetened cocoa and a squirt of honey. Mash it all together to form a ball then put it on some wax paper and flatten it out to desired thickness and shape. I store mine in the freezer and it's damn good. I guess you could sub whey protein if that's what you're after.
