  • Spirulina and other superfoods



    I'm looking for ways to incorporate spirulina and other "superfoods" (like bee pollen and sea vegetables) into my diet.


    I used to put spirulina on top of popcorn, but now that I don't eat corn any more, I'm at a loss. I don't like putting it in smoothies because I can taste it. So, how do you incorporate spirulina and/or other superfoods into your diet?

    Don't know about Spirulina; but I LOVE toasted Nori sheets, the same ones they sell to make sushi.


    My gf and I made grilled mackerel wraps with grated, vinegared daikon. Hot, oily fish, cold sour daikon...Fantastic!

      Did you eat the toasted nori sheets plain? Hot or cold? I'm totally intrigued and see a plethora of appetizer possibilities!!!

        I can eat them right out of the package. (The ones that aren't toasted, go all slimy and nasty in your mouth. I got those by mistake once.)


        My feeling is that any combination of:

        1.) Grilled, hot and fatty meat

        2.) Raw, cold and acidic veggies

        Wrapped in Nori would be delicious.


        I used to make hand-rolled sushi all the time when I ate rice; everybody seemed to love it. Now I realize that your really don't need the rice :-D

          Thanks for the idea Kuno. I wasn't sure what to do with the toasted Nori sheets in the pantry since I didn't want to make Sushi w/ it.


          Milo, incidentally, I was reading up about superfoods in "Nourishing Traditions" just 1/2 an hour ago and was wondering the same. Some good ideas here.

            For sea vegetables, you can always make a seaweed salad. I've made a couple in my day and it's pretty awesome...taking into account you soak your wakame properly.

              When it comes to kelp and other sea vegetables, there's a warning to not overdo it as too much iodine can be detrimental too. So how much is too much? I season my eggs with kelp granules once in a while. Can I use it everyday?

                My Thyroid has alway been toward the "slow" side of normal, so I don't really worry about chowing on seaweed once in awhile ;-)

                  I believe that nori is on the very low end as far a iodine content. Wakame is lower too. The high ones are kelp and kombu.


                  Anywho, I like to add it to soup (w/ asian veggies!!!) and tuna salad w/ soy sauce, sesame oil and avocado. I also buy the seaweed snacks
