Tamari is essentially a soy-sauce but it's wheat-free. Fish sauce can be used as a substitute too, but has a really strong flavor.

I just fried chicken breast in almond flour and it's delicious!

You can also use fried pork skin flour, but it doesn't come out as neat because it's more chunky.

I've also been looking for a soy sauce substitute...

Maba mentioned the closest one to soy sauce already, Wheat-free Tamari. It's definitely at any whole foods, and maybe even at bigger regular grocery stores with an organic section. It's soy sauce without the wheat, and you can get low-sodium in that as well if it matters.

hannahc - Yes I know she mentioned it, I didn't ignore it. I just wanted to say that I had also been looking for a soy sauce substitute.

I've baked a pie crust with almond flour. Was a bit crumbly but tasted good. I've had great success with coconut flour for waffles. And I plan on making 2 recipes soon -- almond flour bread & coconut flour herb buns.

And I'm making baked halibut soon using ground macadamia nuts for a crust. Just haven't had time this week!

How about Braggs Liquid Aminos? It's made from NON-GMO soybeans and purified water but is not fermented or heated and is Gluten-Free. Would this be a good substitute?

I LOVE almond flour---makes the BEST pancakes---better than the 'regular' way. So quick and easy to make. Just google it-I use the About.com recipe, but add a bit of baking powder.

You'll want to check the ingredient list on your Tamari. I went to Whole Foods the other day, and gladly walked out with my Tamari...and when I looked at the back of the bottle when I was getting ready to cook, the third ingredient down was wheat!

LPCR, look for Tamari that specifically says Wheat-free.
