  • Almond Butter help



    Made my first batch of almond butter today. Well half-paste, half-butter. I think the problem is my equipment, which won't allow me to push down the sides because it's enclosed.

    Any tips for an almond butter newb?

    Never attempted to make my own. Local Sunflower Market has a machine where you just grind your own and take as much as you'd like.

      Did you try adding some coconut oil? I usually put a small amount in. Its still the texture of paste, but i like it that way! lol

        Did you roast the almonds in the oven before hand? Doing so usually makes my nut butters much creamier.

            yeah....my old food processor didn't work well either.


            so I got a hand mixer on sale and it works perfectly now.

            something like this:

            u know, with a handle.


            also, I found that if you don't have enough nuts in there, it doesn't work either. even with the hand mixer, if there're less than 100g nuts in the cup, it still won't work.

            I do mine 200g at a time, and it doesn't matter if they're raw or sprouted, with or without skin. works fine. =)

              Forgotten- I didn't roast them. Might try that next time. I assume just toss them in the oven on low temp for a while?


              Riceball- I, in fact, have an older Braun that I used. I tried the handheld portion and got NOWHERE, once it became paste the blades did nada to facilitate buttering progression. The other attachment to mine is a little container with blades in the bottom, which is powered by the handheld part.

              I might break down and see if the FoodHole (aka Wholefoods) has a grinder. I started with 200g roughly and an hour later just added a dash of honey and devoured it all.

                that's odd...

                if it takes an hour there's definitely something going wrong.

                it took me less than a minute to see it turning into butter...

                raw ones do take longer...but that shouldn't take longer than minutes either.

                I sprout mine overnight and peel off the skin then dehydrate them before I make them into butter..that tastes a lot better and and the buttering process is way quicker too. (without skin it's way smoother)

                  I usually do two cups of nuts in the oven at 350 for 10-12 min.

                    it usually takes me around ten minutes before they go from the powdery paste to where they start releasing their oils.
