  • Primal Sloppy Joe's?

Any recipes folks? I'm thinking of making some version of this tomorrow and serving over cauli or lettuce. Trying to find one w/ low/no sugar (or something I could sub w/ stevia...) Did find this one: http://genaw.com/lowcarb/my_favorite_sloppyjoes.html but want to see if there are any others out there...

You should be able to remove the sweetener altogether. If you're worried about the acidity, add a bit of pureed carrot to it at the beginning.
Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, steak in one hand, chocolate in the other, yelling "Holy F***, What a Ride!"

Yeah, this is what I generally do when converting recipes to primal. (And I think it would be fine w/ the one I linked--esp since it doesn't call for tons of sweetener...) Just looking to see if anyone has any tried and true versions of this they love that are totally primal.

      Thanks for the carrot/acidity tip!!

I think SOG's BBQ sauce would be great for sloppy joes

and +1 for carrots, i used to put several whole carrots into big pots of tomato sauce instead of adding sugar

Mr. Ski absolutely LOVES Linda's sloppy joe stuffed peppers. They are very tasty.

I can't find the recipe right now, FR, but I made one a long time ago that boosted the veg content with shredded cabbage and it was fantastic. It all cooked down and blended with the meat. This is making me hungry so I'll probably keep looking...I'll post if I find anything!

edited to add: dangit! I found it, but it's not mine and I can't reproduce it here. I will say that she used 1 c+ shredded cabbage for only 1/2 # ground beef plus about 1c of other veg (onion, carrot, celery, bell pepper) so I know you have a lot of flexibility for meat:veg ratio!

Thanks chameleon--I will totally boost up the veg content next time--sounds great!

So last night, I took the low carb sloppy joe stuffed pepper recipe (thanks Mizski!) and added the carrot idea for the sweetener (thanks naiad!!) and used cococnut aminos (a soy sauce sub--ds has a soy sensitivity) in place of worstechire sauce and they were wayyy yummy!!

Here is my alteration on the recipe Mizski posted. I didn't have peppers, but will totally stuff them next time or add some in chopped. We ate them in lettuce wraps. They were sloppy and delish!

                    SLOPPY JOE STUFFED PEPPERS
                    1 pound ground beef
1 ounce onion, chopped, about 2 tablespoons
                    1 stalk celery, chopped
                    1 carrot, chopped
                    1 clove garlic, minced
1/2 cup tomato sauce (I used 1/2 cup tomato paste plus 1/4+ cup water--puree sauteed onions, carrots, garlic, and celery w/ this--texture issues ds)
                    1 1/2 teaspoons white vinegar
                    1 1/2 teaspoons coconut aminos
                    1/2 teaspoon mustard
                    1/2 teaspoon salt (more)
                    1/8 teaspoon pepper (more)

And Meaty, I still NEED to make that BBQ sauce, and will be at some point. Def. on my 'to do' list!!

Thanks for all the help/ideas guys!! *YUM*
