  • Primal snacks suggestions

    Hi,

I've been trying a primal diet for a while coupled with IF (eating during a 6-9 hour window), but I'm struggling between meals (I get hungry and eat something non-primal).

I'm searching for primal snacks recipes, but most of them require almond or coconut flour - and I can't find both of them.

So, I'd like some primal snacks suggestions so I can eat more "primally"

    Thanks,

    juca

this topic is often discussed. I was thinking about studying the topic a little more lately. I have been hitting the nuts and nut butters pretty hard lately and looking to cut it out. An interesting observation, I find nut-butters less satiating than whole nuts.

The typical things people list are:

    nuts

    fruit

    jerky

    coconut

    veggies

    hard boiled eggs

    cocao nibs

    chocolate

    smoothies

    pork rinds

It's grandma, but you can call me sir.

Grandma I seen them cocoa nibbs at the health food store today, I wanted to get them for smoothies but didn't..they are sooo darn exp like $13 for a tiny pkg?

      why are they so high?

I do almond butter and celery

      or almond butter and apples

      leftover meat

      boiled eggs

      nuts and fruit

      blueberries and cream

rotisserie chicken dipped in almond butter - my fave!

sliced apples sprinkled w/ cinnamon dipped in almond butter - my 2nd fave (but I probably eat way too much almond butter)

Sir grandma I'm opposite of you! I find that I can eat and eat and eat when I have whole almonds/walnuts/pecans in front of me, but 1 tablespoon of almond butter will satiate that craving.

I also like leftover meat (especially flank steak or whole chicken)

            and Hard Boiled Eggs

and half an avocado sprinkled with a bit of sea salt

            and beef jerky

PG no clue why cocao nibs are expensive. Never bought them myself. I was just listing things that people snack on.

I have been thinking about trying to get more of my snack calories from animal products. When I do snack on animal fat it would tend to be cheese, but I'm not sure that is the best idea either, so I'm thinking eggs and jerky may be the way to go

                as an understatement??

Do HB Eggs! They are the best ever. I mean it.

I recently was introduced to the paleo kits. Those things are pretty good. Although, at 5 or 6 bucks a pop, they're pretty expensive. I usually make my own. just buy a bunch of beef jerky (as plain as possible), nuts, and some dried fruit. I usually weigh and measure mine but not necessary.

Scotch eggs- yum. Whole hard boiled egg wrapped in sausage meat- yum, yum, yum.

Tescos (UK) sells some really nice roasted almonds- a spcial kind that taste like a cross between almonds and macademias. Can't remember what they are called now- they are flat and round.

Add more fat to your meals and your 'meal windows' will increase. (Yeah, I know, I just HAD to throw that in there).

This leads into my next suggestion for a snack: Pemmican. Loads of fat, with bits of beef jerky flavor.

Heck, try some canned fish, like pickled herring in olive oil or sardines. (My crazy 11 yr old BEGS me to put those in his lunch!).

                          For me it's generally....

                          1 Jerky & nuts

                          2 Greek yogurt & berries

3 Stirfried chicken legs with skin and schezwan cabbage.

                          4 Handful of almonds

5 Mozzarella cheese on a small salad ( carrots, cucumber, cabbage, red bell peppers )

6 Carrot sticks dipped in almond butter.

                            Kippered herring.

                            HB eggs (again).

Mixed raw nuts & unsweetened coconut flakes.

Holy crapniddly! I just realized that I hardly ever snack anymore. Cool. (Methinks the key is satisfying meals w/ lots of fat and protein, and usually a few veggie carbs for nutrients and variety.)

Sliced turkey rolled up with pesto inside.

Pesto by the spoonful (I love pesto!).

                              Nuts.

Berries & cream or full-fat plain yogurt.

Apple & peanut butter (yeah, I still eat peanut butter).
