  • Wassail Punch

I love the fall so this recipe came to mind.

    Ingredients

    8 whole cloves
    3-4 cinnamon sticks
    3 tbls crystalized ginger
    3 cups water
    1 1/2 cups orange juice
    1 cup pineapple juice
1 cup lemon juice (adjust if to tart)
    1 gallon apple cider

    Directions.
    1. Wrap the cloves, cinnamon sticks, and ginger in cheese cloth, and tie with string.
    2. Add liquid to a big pot.
    3. Put spice bag in liquid and bring to boil
    4. Reduce heat and simmer for an hour or so.
    5. Serve either hot or cold.

    * This is obviously alot of liquid so I usually make it and bottle it up for relatives or bring it to a holiday party.
    * Most recipes have either regular sugar or brown sugar in them. I think with all the fruit it is plenty sweet. If you google wassail you will find alot of recipes with varying ingredients. Enjoy!

What story/culture behind the beverage? It sounds tasty!

That sounds good, but then I'm in autumn overdrive right now, so anything with cider sounds tasty. =] I've made spiced cider, but the other fruit juices would be an interesting addition.

I'm a big fan of wassail. I have a few recipes I intend to break out over the holidays.

Here's a cute, quick history of wassail.
