  • Raw Nut Virgin

So I was in the big health food store, and they had gorgeous-looking raw walnuts, cashews, etc. Bought some. Was looking forward to a new and potentially fresh-and-yummy experience.

Got home, snitched a few, and they were, to my palate, soft and tasteless.

    Is this normal?

    Is this an acquired taste?

Or do most people then roast them themselves?

Are there some nuts that are better raw than others? (I'm thinking pecans?)

They are definatly different than roasted. I love the raw cashews, but it did take a while to appreciate the taste.

I soak and dehydrate them to make crispy nuts a la Nourishing Traditions. They are addictive!

I do like Puddymama, only I dry mine over night in a very low oven. I soak my almonds/walnuts/pecans and what ever in salty water for about 7 hours and then dry over night--12 hours or so--at about 170--as low as my oven will go. I tried soaking over night and drying all day, but it drove me nuts and I kept opening the door to test. They are sooooooo good this way! I am also thinking about taking 'crispy nuts' and making spiced nuts out of them.
Every day is another stitch in the quilt of life.

Just remember that cashews are legumes.

              Will anyone let me forget?????

              j/k . I think.

I bought about 3/4 almonds and 1/4 cashews and mixed them. I think I'll live.

But I think they're getting roasted. Feeling a little ornery today.
