  • Nori - Useful for "sandwiches"?

    Sometimes I am just not in the mood for a salad and kind of miss having a lunch sandwich.

    I wonder, have any of you ever tried making a sandwich or wrap with this seaweed? I don't want to make sushi or anything, just a simple wrapper that isn't lettuce or cabbage like i've been using on my non BAS days.

    I've used it to make sushi rolls in the past - it's very sticky when it gets a little wet. Might be a good idea to wrap something that isn't so damp first....like maybe cheese?? or some kind of meat and then put veggies and any condiments or oils in the center. You could even do some kind of egg sandwhich as long as you put cheese or maybe Turkey?? next to the nori.....

    I really think you might have something here with this idea.....I'm gonna get me some nori......

      I've made nori rolls in the past with salmon salad. Salmon, bit of mayo, avocado, scallions, etc. Really yummy and convenient to eat. I personally don't find the combination of nori and cheese or cold cuts appealing, simply because I associate nori with seafood, but you should experiment. Oh, and it's true that nori becomes sticky when wet, but this can a good thing as it allows you to seal the roll.

          If it gets sticky when wet then maybe you could use two sheets together to make your wrap, for extra strength.

            I find Nori ridiculously expensive. I don't care how many are in a package, it bugs me to pay $5 for something that weighs about an ounce! I shake my fist at the Nori distributors and continue to use lettuce.

                I just bought nori at the asian market for less than $2.00 for ten. I don't think that's too bad.

                  try dry frying the nori to make chips too:-)
                  definitely good for wraps though!

                        Ok, so I made three different kinds of nori wraps for lunch today:

                        1) Tuna, jalepenio peppers
                        2) Cucumber, Avocado, Sundried Tomato and sardines
                        3) Sardines, goat cheese, cucumber, avocado, squirt of lime

                        They were delicious! But the best was #3 with sardines and goat cheese. Yum!
