I took the pill/patch on and off for the better part of 6 years only to realize the side effects were just not worth it, and in some cases - continuous migraine with aura - were a precursor to more serious issues - potential stroke. So, I bid the pill adieu - stopped taking it mid-pack. For some time I used only barrier methods, but now with being in a monogamous relationship, I use FAM/charting and barrier methods. I recommend reading "Taking Charge of Your Fertility" before using FAM/charting methods. I use a LadyComp personal basal body temp monitor which wakes me up at the exact same time every day, records my temp, and gives me a green (go-infertile), yellow (caution), or red (GTFO - fertile days) light based on my cycle and patterns collected since I started using it 2 years ago. Patterns are better detected over a longer period of use, so the longer you use it, the more accurate it becomes. In the first few months of using it, it's mostly all yellow and red lights. Then the green lights or infertile days become more common. It also helps having a partner with uh, a lot of control in that department. On yellow days, we use condoms. On red days, we abstain or use dual methods - condom and sponge, usually.

I am thinking about quitting the pill. I have two kids and have been off and on since early 20's. I am 34 now. I have menstrual migraines and heavy periods. Well I used to. Who knows what I would be like now. Does anyone have any experience with either of these issues clearing up with a primal diet? I am currently taking Yaz and I want off. I know something is wrong. I took Seasonale for years and now Yaz. My periods have completely stopped. I was regular with Seasonale (as regular as one can be) and now nothing. Certainly not pregnant. I also can't drop body fat and I am wondering if it is hormone based. I defintely got fuller when I started the pills way back when. I can't do an IUD, had one, let's not talk about it. I am thinking of going the natural planning method with monitor. Thanks for the idea!!!

Another thing about going off the pill that I've not seen mentioned. The pill really kills some women's sex drive. My wife was uninterested when on the pill a lot of the time. Go off the pill, and the world changed. The hormones jack with the libido, she's using the copper IUD now and really digs it so far. Going off the pill was a great decision in our family, we wish we had done it years ago! What's scary is that she's been hormonally regulated since she was 14, I gasp at the havoc we played on her system all these years. *We're high school sweethearts*

Yeah, TCOYF is a much more thorough up to date resource.

This is most likely a result of insufficient magnesium, vitamin d and progesterone. The progesterone can be elevated and stabilized by taking Neptune Krill Oil. Don't buy the pricey ones, there's no difference as currently only one (well maybe two) company is producing krill oil and just labeling it for everyone.

The links in my sig line show what Mg, NKO and vitamin D I use. The vitamin D doc, also linked below talks about D levels and supplementation.

Lately, i've seen a fertility commercial promoting a small device that help you to determine precisely when you're the most likely to get pregnant. I wonder if the same device couldn't be used to do the exact opposite ..

Man, that's so weird to be a guy telling this kind of thing to women's, lol !

Ovulation predictor kits are better used for pregnancy achievement than prevention. But still, it's even better to go by physical signs than the device. Cervical fluid cues plus cervical position are very accurate (while paying attention to days, patterns and sensations). Cervical position during the fertile window can be described as SHOW - soft, high, open, wet (eggwhite fluid...superslick, very lubricative and *stays*) When not fertile, the cervix is firmer, lower in the vaginal canal, closed and there is little to no cervical fluid.

I was on the pill for a number of years and didn't care for it. One of my biggest complaints in that it killed my libido. We've been using Natural Family Planning for about 12 years now - it involves monthly charting of one's cycle using one's waking temperature, cervical mucus observations, and even the position of the cervix. "Taking Charge of Your Fertility" is definitely worth reading.

We've used it consistently (and exclusively) to both achieve and avoid pregnancy. My husband and I have two children, each conceived on the first try. We've also successfully avoided pregnancy for the remainder of that 12 year time period.

Feel free to email me if you'd like more info.

Am I the only one who got turned on reading this??? Also, pay attention to your spicy mustard consumption. When you are craving spicy mustard, watch for the signs above and more likely than not, you will find that they are correlative in nature.

Guys...and lesbians...pay attention to the above. Tune into your lover and you will absolutely know when she is most fertile. You will be able to sense it with all your senses...just pay attention. If you can truly master this and know her cycle...you can become an attentive lover like she has always imagined and desired. You can become the type of lover that she has only dreamed of. It is worth the effort and it will feel odd at first, but you will get it...and then...you will get it! Oh, and don't just walk up to her and ask if you can take a sample to see if she is ovulating...unless you know she is ovulating...as that is the only time that "line" will work...lol.

Anywho...I am all worked up now...time to close the office door...lol.
