  • Why does Korg have "that problem" in PB?

I want to know. Why is erectile disfunction so prevalent these days? What's the cause? Would Grok have had such a problem if he lived to be that old? Or does his life style prevent it?

Aside from any possible health issues from modern living, I came up with another possibility. Let me be brutally honest. If I had a wife who was disgustingly fat, I wouldn't be able to get it up because I wouldn't have any interest in having sex with her at all, and I'd have to make up an excuse such as ED. In fact, I'd actually be repulsed by her.

Aside from that, if I was too heavy, I wouldn't feel sexy and wouldn't get turned on as much. If I was too heavy and out of shape, it'd be hard to have sex, and it'd hurt, so I wouldn't be able to perform as well or for as long. Also, fatigue could play a role as well. I don't mean ED, but just being too tired to do the deed.

Anyways, just got curious to discuss after seeing that mentioned in PB.

Consistently elevated blood sugar, inflammatory pufas and a generally toxic system causes arteries to harden and lose their suppleness. the extremities are the first thing to go. It isn't to be joked about but..
It happened to a friend...he took powdered rhino horn for a month which worked but every time he got a hard-on he started head butting land rovers.
My grandad was in a nursing home and they gave him viagra, he didn't want sex but it stopped him from rolling out of bed.

No, I think the main problem is that he has the theme song from Baywatch stuck in his head, and can't stop thinking about girls in swimsuits...

Okay, yeah, the high blood pressure and stress are probably the main cuplrits.

I'm pretty fussy so my most likely cause of ED would be a ugly woman, its happened before once before lol. I have no idea why ED is common though, I feel its probably related to the lack of exercise.

          1. Because it's happening to Baby Boomers, and anything that happens to Boomers is the most important thing that ever happened.

          2. Because the sale of the meds helps Big Pharma and the Insurance industry.

          3. Because we're a culture of of psychological weaklings.

I certainly agree with the above, in particular points 2 & 3. There has been an overall decline in testosterone in men, here is just one study, I can't find the others:

Declining testosterone levels in men not part of normal aging

Frequent exercise and frequent sex raises testosterone, no exercise, shitty diet, little or no sex and a culture that tries to feminize men when they are boys results in.....not much of a mystery here.

Here is a blog post that I did on this topic:

Lift heavy stuff whilst watching Baywatch, then eat some meat. You'll be having problems getting your trousers on in the mornings

There's also a relation between gut health and erectile dysfunction. A diet high in omega 6, processed foods and antibiotics and low in fiber isn't doing anyone's penis any good.

There's also a relationship between circumcision and ED.

There's less of an issue with ED in countries where circumcision is less prevalent.

It was considered an honour among the Mandan to have one's wife impregnated by an old and famous ex-warrior, mighty in war. (I know: it's strange and rather cold. Others' customs are not ours.) It follows that these elderly gents could, presumably, get it up.

I'm not convinced. It's not something that's really controlled by the conscious mind or its opinions. In their own way, erections never lie, because they're not under voluntary control.

Aside from that, if I was too heavy, I wouldn't feel sexy and wouldn't get turned on as much. I think this is similar to the earlier suggestion: it's all to do with what you might think in your conscious mind. You may be right up to a point, but I really do doubt this.

I suspect Mr. Korg is biochemically dysfunctional. I've had two copies of the book but given them both away, and hadn't recalled this. But I'd think so. Apart from anything else you need adequate protein to make hormones (including sex-hormones). Not sure Ken gets enough. I don't recall, but he probably lives on cake and coke and coffee. The Mandan didn't. I wonder if his intake of fat-soluble vitamins would be adequate, too. Modern fat-phobia has damaged us in a number of different says. Both A and E seem to be important for sexual function and fertility. Robb Wolf has claimed that many women who use his gym who are persuaded to adopt a paleo diet suddenly fall pregnant after years of trying. This is "anecdotal" information, to be sure, but it is interesting and suggestive.

I've no evidence, but inclined to wonder whether such problems are rooted more in what contemporary people avoid than in what they do eat. Perhaps what's really too much starch and alcohol won't shut you down in this respect as long as you do get enough protein and enough good fats. Do most modern people? I don't know: but I think that's a question worth asking.

And, then again, Ken Korg's patterns of sleeping and waking are probably abnormal, and he doubtless watches TV late into the night, so that his circadian rhythms would be disrupted. Wouldn't help. Erections in the easy morning are normal: hormonal cycles are linked to circadian rhythms. Ken's sleep/wake cycles would not be normal.

Here's an interesting podcast in which Kaayla Daniel, the "Naughty Nutritionist" is interviewed. It's in part about the deleterious effects of plant oestrogens in soy on male sexual function, but it's wider ranging:

There are also a lot of accounts of ED surrounding pornography and masturbation. With access to shockingly graphic and extreme forms of pornography available to more people than even before (know in the palm of many people's hands too with smart phones), cases are increasing. With such constant, instant, and easy access to this material, many men are experiencing ED when with a partner because it doesn't match the intense and extreme experiences of the porn. There's a movement against it called NoFap that's been gaining steam over the past couple of years.

I'd bet the declining levels of testosterone play a large role in other diagnoses.

Also with some grim exceptions of especially vanquished and tormented populations, no human population in history has ever had such little power over their daily lives; while I agree that the toxic chemical immersion is at play, at the same time, men just know deep down that they ain't shit.
"Ah, those endless forests, and their horror-haunted gloom! For what eternities have I wandered through them, a timid, hunted creature, starting at the least sound, frightened of my own shadow, keyed-up, ever alert and vigilant, ready on the instant to dash away in mad flight for my life. For I was the prey of all manner of fierce life that dwelt in the forest, and it was in ecstasies of fear that I fled before the hunting monsters."
